1911 forum

This new forum looks very good. Although I don't have anything to sell or buy, I'm happy to see that the participants are being treated like responsible adults and allowed to post such things.

and Todesengel - that's a beautiful dog!

Surely one of the 1911forum mods is here and can let us know what's up?

I'm having withdrawal symptoms.

Same here, c'mon one of you 1911forum mods must be able to at least tell us if the forum is returning or not. That "closed until further notice" sounds very ominous. :(

I'm one of the 1911forum moderators and as of this point, I haven't a clue to what's going on. I wasn't notified of the closing and neither were any of the other staff members I've been in contact with. Your guess can only be as good as mine, but I think it's still too soon to start assuming the worse.

As soon I learn anything I'll pass it on, but in the meantime, keep the faith! :)

Like Tony said, standby. I have emailed a couple of the admins and they are as clueless as you and I are. All I can say is something must have broke.

I have my doubts about the "broke" theory. Not really based on anything beyond the fact that people who presumably should be able to contact the webmaster have not been able to do so. Also the message is very abrupt and you'd think it wouldn't be all that hard to update to "Sorry, we're having technical difficulties-be back soon".

The shroud of silence about the whole affair makes me think that legal action is in this somewhere. Hopefully I'm way wrong....

Perhaps some personal problem we should be patient with. I lost my younger brother 5 weeks ago and was told that my sister is in a diabetic coma that she may not come out of. I couldn't run a forum right now, maybe neither can he.

There are many, many possible scenarios that would fit the facts that we know. Basically, we know that the board has been off-line for several days, that there is a rather abrupt message displayed, and that no one seems to be able to make contact with the owner. Some things that come to mind include:

* Was five minutes from leaving to catch a flight for a two-week huniting trip to northern Canada, learned that the board had technical problems, posted message, and left on trip.

* Heart attack, in hospital, told wife how to post "closed" message.

* In jail.

* First scenario, but left with wife to vacation in Tahiti.

* Got subpeonaed under PATRIOT Act, can't say anything.

* Etc., etc., etc.

In summary, until somebody who actually knows something tells us what's going on, we don't know, and there's not really much point in speculating that something bad has happened. It may have, or it may not have. In the mean time, we just need to sit tight.

What I know about it (and it isn't much) there has been a software problem with the e-mail notification of new subscribed threads and new private messages; first no e-mails were being sent and then people started getting 3 - 4 or 5 e-mails with the same notification.

I don't know if that is why the board is down or not. IIRC, it has been taken down in the past with the same "down until further notice" notice for repairs and such. All under the FWIW heading.

All you 1911forum mods, please keep us informed as much as you can. I usually visit there 3-4 times a week and find it to be an excellent resource. I eagerly await the forum's restoration. I don't post much, but I've found the answers to tons of questions there.

Well here is the latest message on the site:

Members,

Good news! The forum will be back online Monday evening. I apologize for the downtime. I was investigating a possible security breach on the server. After careful examination, everything has checked out and we are set to re-open the forums tomorrow.

The email system, however, is in disarray. I am backlogged over one month, so please sit tight as I work to answer your emails.

Thanks again for your patience!

-Jason
