I thought I would post a few pictures of my .38/.44 heavy duty. Its a post war transitional long action revolver. Fired it yesterday with 158 LSWC ammo I loaded, and it shoots very well. I love 4" N frames. This one has all the original parts, serial numbered same as the frame. It also has about 95% original finish, and has NOT been reamed to .357 Magnum. The grips are elephant Ivory.

Oh MY! That is gourg...gorge... gorgu...(sp?)... drool-worthy! :)

Those grips alone are probably worth a fortune. Love the color and "figure" in them!

Someone mentioned something about being 'proud' of guns and other posessions. Normally I don't feel proud that I own an object.

For that...I might have to make an exception.

The best part was I found this at a local store I frequent and it was out of the collection of someone who I knew from our gun club who had died a year ago. The price was a tremendously good deal, and the store owned it as they had bought the collection after family members took what they wanted. The price was far less than its worth. Selling the Ivory grips would pay about 90% of the purchase price. I usually read about other folks finding such deals but not me.

OK, on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd say my jealousy/envy index is at 11.

How could anything say "Mid-Twentieth Century America" better than a .38/44 with ivory grips?

Or be less politically "correct". I LOVE IT!

Pure Sweetness in blue steel and ivory.

Some times, the gun gods smile down upon thee. This was certainly one of them moments MB. Nice.

very nice I have its brother from 1948, but it only has wood grips :( I find mine to be very accurate and shoots well with just about any kind of fodder.

This post got me thinking about Ivory. To my surprise, you can still buy elephant ivory, as long as it's verified "pre-ban". A set of raw uncarved blanks that are big enough to make grips for one gun are $400. Wouldn't be surprised if that translates to 7 or 8 hundred AFTER they're carved. YIKES!
