I took my early 870 Remington 12ga pump out for a few rounds of trap last night, I with I could say I shot a 25-25, but no. only a 20-25 with the vent barrel. it,s a 1950 12ga field shotgun that I picked up two extra barrels for, a longer 12 ga full choke vent rib barrel and a short 12 ga barrel with cyl choke and rifle sights as they are both only 2-3/4 chambers they were pretty cheap. when I bought the shotgun the price was very good (125.00) as every one was jumping on the 3" mag craze and thought 2-3/4 chambers were for sissies. it,s now 68 years old and I think its better made than the new ones being made today.

Looks great for pushing 70. I love my 2005? 870 (Wingmaster), but of course I'd prefer a 1950. If my brain hasn't failed me, I believe '50 was the first year of the 870.

You've got quite the collection of 870's if I remember correctly, eastbank.

Awesome collection eastbank. I especially like this one with the corncob forearm.

Back when they were made right. I hear the new ones are a joke, even police guns are pitiful.

That style forarm is holdover from model 31. Those aren't superior to recent ones with 26" or 28" Light Contour barrels. The new ones have nicer cut-checkered wood and finish that is more oxidation resistant.

I kinda like good steel and wood, and even the old style forends.

I have one from 1951, and one from the 60’s. Wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Nice vintage Remington 870! Kind of reminds me of my first 870, along with a couple of the same barrels, purchased new some 40 years ago. Not quite as old as yours but of a similar quality in terms of how well they were built back then.

I shot a 24 with my Tactical mag with the SpeedFeed III pistol-grip stock and a 28" VR with a Mod. choke in last week. (and 2 20's :uhoh: ) I've had at least 1 870 since shortly after I turned 18 (many years ago...) My first was an early 80's Wingmaster 30" Full VR barrel.
Your 870 is a classic, despite paulsj's derision. ;)

I'm with Mn Fats in that, IIRC, 1950 was the first year of production and I'd love to have an early one. Mine's a circa 1987 model that I got brand new and it's still going strong. Have never had any problems with it. It's a beautiful, classic, example of an excellent engineering design. Even if some of the later ones had some production issues the basic design is proven to be superb.
