Hey everyone I have been eyeballing a 1959 Winchester Model 12 in 20 gauge with SN: 1,772,XXX. It has a 28" barrel and a ribbed forearm.

The markings say the following:

Winchester
Trade Mark
Made in USA

Model 12 - 20 Ga - 2 3/4 Chamber
Winchester Proof Steel
Mod

The condition of the gun is pretty good. The stock has some slight scratches (no cracks) on it as it's been used however the bluing is pretty darn good. I'd rate the bluing a 9-10. No pitting that I can see.

Can anyone tell me what they think this might be worth?

The 20s are worth a bit more than the 12ga. The shape its in I would figure $700-$900. As long as the stock doesn't have too many scratches or cracks.

I agree with RedLabel. The 20's command more $$$ than the 12's or 16's. And it's probably why I don't have one to go with my 12 & 16. A 16 can be a nice compromise in a model 12 because they are scaled to gauge and feel more like a 20 than a 12 and can often be found for $500 or less.

I'll get pictures up later today if I can. Thanks for the insight guys, I'm still considering buying her.

Should be a nice gun but wont handle as nice a pre '31 gun or even the post '30 pre ww2 20ga guns....heavier barrels and wood than the earlier guns but still a classic in every sense...

One just like that sitting in local shop at $600 for a couple months. Has caught my eye a few times but not the folks buying these days.

Well photos won't come until Wednesday. Had a bridal photo shoot today and hop a plane to Pittsburgh tomorrow.

How about a Winchester Model 12? I think by the serial number (481116) that it was made in 1927. Anyone have an idea what it might be worth (or have a website that I could find out). I'm trying to find out for a friend who wants to sell it and I don't want her to get shafted. I have a Remington 870 and my wife doesn't think I need another gun! :)>) I'm not a true gun enthusiast, just love to hunt, so I have no idea what some of these old classics might be worth. It's in excellent shape with hardly any wear, no rust, and the stock and barrel grip, which are a light brown color, are almost pristine. Really a beautiful gun.

Hello friends and neighbors // I need to know if the Model 12 is Skeet ,Piegon,Field,Super field....... to narrow things down.
There are several 28" 20 gauge listed in the Model 12 value tracker. A list of Auction estimates and actual sale prices.

If in VG condition with the info provided being a 20ga. anywhere from $900-$2700
Nice find, I'd love to see pics. Most I see that age have lost all/most blueing.

How do you tell the difference?

For what it's worth, I was under the impression that we were talking about a field grade gun in the 80% - 90% range. Get on Gunbroker, Guns International, or Guns America and find some that compare to the one in question.

Hello friends and neighbors // The pics will help, the different grades have to do with wood checkering, ventilated rib type........dates overlap so it is difficult.
Raised shoulderstock w/checkering and VR often mean it is a Trap Grade for instance.

Any Winchester Model 12 with a Serial # earlier than 1,968,307 is worth a close look.

Added quick photos. Will try to replace the ones I have with studio ones later this week. It's been a crazy week!

Nice looking model 12, there have been many of the 20 ga turned into 28 ga.
If the price is right in your mind buy it.

Hello friends and neighbors // Great looking model 12

Looks like Standard grade. I just got back in town, I'll have a closer look with the book this evening.

Nice find

2010 book:
At auction 3/25/06 A 99% Model 12 ,12 GA. Standard grade was estimated at $400-600 and sold for $780(no date of manuf. is noted). The book indicated to add %25 for 20ga. so around $1000, four years ago.

2002 book:
Model 12 standard Manuf. 1912-1964
20ga. NIB$ 869/EXC$695/good$473

Best I can do, enjoy the search.

Good lookin 20ga..nice stock wood 4 a field grade.....push that take down pin in so the long end is resting against the left side of the barrel....if it wont stay up, it probably needs a new take down pin spring....$1 part....
