Hey there! Im hoping i can get an idea of whats wrong & what estimated cost to repair my rifle might be please.

Its a late 1960's or early 1970's Revelations, Western Auto Supply Model R220A in .308 bolt gun. If memory serves, Mossberg made it back then??

Anyway, the bolt jams after firing. the more rounds fired, the longer it takes & the harder it is to work the bolt. My father was first owner, barely shot it & only to sight it in back when he got it new. it was in storage for quite a long while. it came to me in the mid to late 1990's when i used it to get 2 deer. otherwise i kept it cleaned and oiled. ill estimate that theres been only 50 to 75 rounds shot out of it since it was new.

Any idea what the problem & cost might be? Also, if Mossberg made it, is there any synthetic stocks that would fit it?

Thank you!

Take the word "jam" and expand it into a paragraph, with a few pictures, then we'll have something to talk about.

I can think of a dozen different failure modes that you might be imagining, and guessing our way through them is a waste of time.

It’s never a bad idea to start with a good cleaning. Oil,especially if you aren’t using one made for firearms, can dry and gum up,as Scooter said. Also, clean the chamber and be sure it’s oil free. An oily chamber can give indications of over pressure, like flat primers and hard extraction.

ok, so, the cartridge feeds well at first, no jamming then, and it locks well when you rotate the bolt into battery. upon firing the bolt has a hard time coming open, itll be hard to turn it to take it out of battery. it will eventually unlock & allow the next cartridge in with a bit of difficulty. put it in battery again & fire and it takes longer and requires more force to open it again than it took the first time. as shots progress, the bolt sticks closed longer & takes increasing force to open and close the bolt. after 4 shots its jamming closed much longer so i have to wait longer before itll come loose.

I keep it lightly oiled with gun oil, its been cleaned well every time ive shot it and do not leave too much oil in it, very lightly coated. i see no rust at all. and as said before, i probably dont have more that 3 boxes of shells through it.

Thank you!

Can you post a picture of your fired primers. Might help rule out ammo issues. I’m still thinking you may have dried oil residue in your bolt recesses or possibly an oily chamber. The good cleaning helps rule that out, then I’d start by disassembling the bolt and looking for anything out of sorts.

Only factory loads. 180 grn win soft points. Dont have fired shells as i haveent shot it inprobably 12 years. Im in a crappy state where you have to drive nearly 2 hrs to get to a shooting ara & i dont get out much.

Well i guess it too complicated to have it diagnosed over internet, but i thank every one that reached out!

Like most things, the more info you give the better chance we have in diagnosing the problem.

Dies the bolt open can closes easily on a empty chamber?

I would have the bolt disassembled and cleaned up. Sounds like it may be rusted up making it hard to rotate.

Unfortunately, it always is, especially without pictures and as much information, and more, that can be provided.
