It's a common problem with High Standards, sad to say.
The most frequent cause of such problems is the magazine. There are lots of good answers at:

Do a search on "magazine," and plan to spend some time reading.
Wolff makes good replacement springs for High Standards, and they can make an enormous difference.
It's always a bad idea to try high velocity ammunition in these pistols: they were made specifically for standard velocity ammunition. The hotter stuff not only wears out springs faster, but can crack the right side of the frame in P.D.Q. order.
Lots of High Standards absolutely will
not chamber CCI Green Tag and Standard Velocity rounds, but will handle other brands just fine. My Trophy eats anything. One of my Victors eats just about anything, but occasionally chokes on CCI .22s. The other Victor... Well, the less said, the better.
