Ruger SR22 simple customization:

The SR22, from the factory, has a known problem of Fail-to-feed (FTF) on the second round. It will eject the first round but then fail to strip and feed the second round. It will also, occasionally jam (FTF) while using some of the bulk ammo. They also tend to fail to lock back slide after last round. The fix for these are fairly simple.

FTF Fix:
1. You remove the barrel using an Allen wrench on the barrel retaining nut that is accessible just in front of the trigger.
2. With a small precision semi rounded file you remove the lip at the junction of the feed ramp and chamber until you can run a shape point over it and feel no catching.
3. Sand the file marks out and with #600 to #1200 Wet/Dry paper (dry).
4. Very lightly sand the inside ramp edges and the edge of the chamber.
5. With a Dremel tool using a pointed buffing attachment and light metal polishing rouge polish all of the surfaces that you sanded to a smooth shine.
6. Re-assemble the barrel using some Loc-tite on the threads. Torque the screw securely, but don’t gorilla it on.
7. Order a stainless guide rod/spring assembley from Brass Stacker: https://brassstacker.com/ruger/Ruger-SR22-Captured-Recoil-Guide-Rod-Assembly.html

Follow the instruction on their video on how to assemble the gun with the new rod: https://brassstacker.com/installation-videos.html

Fix the lock back notch on your receiver:
1. The receiver (slide) is made of aluminum and may have been slightly marred if the slide stop has not been rising enough on last shot. It has a hard metal rod inserted where the slide stop is supposed to contact.
2. Carefully grind the face of the notch back a bit to smooth out the marring and create a neat notch
3. Smooth with fine file.
4. Clean with alcohol and treat with Aluminum Black.

Adjusting Magazines:
1. Make sure the thumb knob is assembled correctly
2. Take a small file and square off the top of the channel in the magazine that the thumb knob rides in. Do both sides so the magazine follower that pushes the bullets up sits tight against the shell guide at top. This will allow the spring to push the slide stop all the way into the notch on the slide on last round.
3 . Optional to clean and treat with cold blue.

Now your SR22 should successfully cycle any 22 long standard and hi velocity.
