Hey all, I have a Rem.870 Wingmaster, 2 3/4 chamber only with a 28 in. barrel.
I am looking to sell it and was wondering if it would be worth more money in it's
present state or if a shortened barrel and decked out as a tactical 12 gauge with pistol grip and forearm grips would make it sell more. The gun is in very good condition, some bluing loss on the bottom of the shell loading area, but not
bad at all. Let me know what your thoughts are.

Sell it "As is"

I doubt the increase in sale price would be as much as the price you will pay for all the "decked out" work.

Hey cmanhome, don't change it! There's lots of folks who know what well made shotgun the older 870s are, and would much rather find one unmolested. Try the shotgun section of the Trading Post here; an older 870 in decent shape won't last a week. Put a pic or two up, too. :)

'decking out' an old wingmaster is akin to welding rails on a pre-64 winchester m70. i would advise against the practice, but if you do it, i'd sure like to see a pic!

Now that's good right there

I've got a pre war M70 that somebody with a hand drill tried to drill scope mount holes in the rear of the action. Took him 3 tries and still didn't get any two of them straight.
Sad when someone wrecks one of the old ones............

they only made 10,000,000 of them in the last 50+ years so unless yours is somehow special ( other than special to you) and has REALLY nice wood and brite lustery blueing, i say its worth about 400-600 in the condition you describe with 2 3/4 receiver and 28 inch fixed choke tube. (used) with out seeing it in my hands. why dont you keep it around for shooting birds or skeet ?

dont spend money on those mods unless you want a home defense gun and if you did you can get a used 18 inch 870 with the goodies for about the same money

Around these parts an older wingmaster can be had for $250-$275 at a pawn shop.
