Last words: "Hold my beer and watch this!"

A 19 year old should know better . . . I find it really hard to muster up any sympathy for something like this.

Talented...but not to bright.

Think about this: There is an 1/6(or 1/5 or 1/8 or...) chance that someone playing RR is going to get it. That means that for every story we hear about someone shooting themselves in the head over this, there are (statistically) at least five other stories where someone did it and got away with it.

Those are the ones I'm worried about. Darwin took care of this one. Those other five are still out there. Walking around. Being stupid.

Wonder when we'll read about the dumbass that decided to play roulette with an automatic? Hehe. The odds are definitely worse than 1:6 there. :neener:

He prob looked at the chamber and saw the bullet wasnt lined up with the barrel, and being a uneducated moron he forgot the fact that the cylinder turns when you pull the trigger.

I guess the manufacturer is going to be sued for not having a "bullet not aligned with barrel but about to be rotated into position" indicator. If only he had had one of those indicators, the world would not have lost this promising young genius. Who knows what he might have done? Why he might have cured cancer or aids. Or he could have become a great world leader and brought peace to the middle east and other trouble spots. And world hunger; he might have ended that. But Nooooo. That evil manufacturer, in an effort to enhance his bottom line, (greedy thing that he is) chose not to put a "bullet not aligned with barrel but about to be rotated into position" indicator.

Dumb accidents like this make the whole shooting community look bad.

His family will never recover from this.

This really goes beyond firearm education. This speaks to a deeper and far more disturbing issue facing our national community. There is a prevelant philosophy of detachment. It's the "that can't happen to me" syndrome. People feel that they are not a part of the world and they seem to believe that their actions are dismissable and without effect upon themselves or those around them. That life is separate from reality. It's a perception of disbelief and of refusing to take responsibility. It's the same ideal that allows for people to sue a car company after smacking into a wall because they thought cruise control was the same as "auto-pilot". People have come to believe that they are not to blame for anything. They have become numb, and detached. Take for example what one of the witnesses said. They thought he fired into the ceiling. She could not believe that reality had just occurred in her own lap. We have entered a realm of existance where we cannot fathom that reality is among us -- every day -- and its effects are palpable. I am not going to begin seeking explanations or laying blame on any one facet of our society. But I think we are in great need of a re-education and a new exploration of our values as humans.

If you bite your lip it is going to hurt. If you prick your finger it will bleed. If you put a loaded gun to your head, and pull the trigger you will kill yourself and ruin the lives of those around you. Take responsibility, people. STOP ACTING STUPID!!!

Thanks. I'm done now.

Amadeus - you hit several nails square on there. I promulgate the opposite approach myself ... and did with my kids ... ''It CAN happen to me'' ..... and so live defensively, if you like.

This ''can't happen to me'' apathy is endemic ..... no, probably pandemic in this young 21st century.

And I'll add my usual small caveat too . ''Don't assume'', and ''Expect the unexpected'' .... kinda helps to keep the gremlins away a bit.

I do feel sympathy for this moron's family ... tho I fear they are possibly themselves potential Darwin candidates .... that or, the moron was high on something and lost all neuronic connections!

Thanks P95. You're probably right that this is pandemic. Sounds to me like you've got the right outlook with your family. Living defensively is really a good way to go about the world. It keeps you thinking.

Amadeus

has it right, it's why the bear/mountain lion threads get so much traffic.
To us it makes perfect sense to bring a firearm with us when venturing
around areas with large dangerous animals about,to the "west wing" tv show people, guys like us are just waiting to shoot a cute mtn lion cub because we have nothing better to do. As if you can reason with a mtn lion or banging a pan works 100% of the time.
They tell us we don't need guns because we are in an urban enviroment
with no bears or lions,we go out to the state parks were there are
bears or lions and they still pass laws saying you can not carry guns...:fire:

Nobody has said it yet so I will bring it up, then duck.

Its said that he "wrote and performed hip hop music".

To what extent could "keepin it real" and "gotta be hard" have factored into this tragedy, i.e. gotta be a tough guy?.

And yes "hip hop music" does not mean hardcore gangsta rap, necessarily, but it can.

Then again, he was 19 - he could have been trying to impress the girl on his lap, just in a terrible way.

I've been very critical of the whole "rap culture" here many times. I want to cry at what it is doing to our young people.

But in fairness, I understand it may have nothing to do with this tragedy.
But then again, it might.

Everything that needs to be said, has been said here.

And more.
