2 BROKE shotguns Beretta & Remy

Dove hunting is always my high point of the year, this year was excellent - to say the least.
Just had 2 minor problems - That I have NEVER-EVER heard of.
Remington sporting 28ga 1100 released the wear plate in the top of the receiver; I found the part when I was taking the gun out of the case for deep cleaning -blood has damaged many a bird gun.
Beretta 391 magazine end cap has a complex (to me) detent plunger/spring/carrier/washer assembly that mysteriously blew out the spring hole in the carrier - how come they went away from the clothespin style from the AL-2 thru 390 I'll never guess long story short - magazine end piece - it carries the gas piston - is not locked in place, effectively placing this weapon out of commission for 7-10 working days until the new parts get here ( $ 12 )
I think I can just re-stake the wear plate on the remy - just never have even heard of this - but I don't shoot remys, have an 11-87 that has been a loaner only, and beretta doesn't make a gas 28ga soo.....
any advice?

I've tried to re-stake the spring in the side of an 1100 receiver by hand. No dice.

If you have access to a metal shop with some sort of stamping machine, it might be possible, if you know what you're doing. I don't know for sure what it takes. How much metal is shoved over on that part? Just a little ding, or a 1/8" wide flat?

That's why I keep an 870 Express upstairs.

Whatever else breaks, I can always get that. If I can get rid of this !@#$ sore throat and cold that kept me from the opener.

I got back ups for back ups in rifle, shotgun and handgun, but rarely have to worry about it. I always take along a back up when on a trip hunting, though. You just never know. Had to use my back up deer rifle once when my primary's scope had a problem.Stuff happens. Just the other day I was making my Ruger P90 ready for carry when the friggin' magazine latch spring broke. Well, stuff happens, even to Rugers, so I just prepped my P85 for carry and called Ruger for the part next day. Just one reason you can't own too many firearms.

I also take a backup on every hunt. Never had to use it but---You never know. My son's 870 went out on him opening day and my backup saved his day. Seems his 870 started spitting shells out of the magazine tube. Shot some Gubscrubber into the action, got that fixed. Then shells started sticking in the chamber. I took it apart the next day and polished the chamber with 0000 steel wool. Solved that problem. Gave it a thorough cleaning while I had it down. The 870 is 10 years old and had never had its oil changed. Oh, well!

I don't have any Beretta semiautos, and I don't have any opinion about their longevity, though they balance well.

The only semi shotgun I own is a 37-year-old 1100 Magnum with a couple ribless barrels. It's so heavy I use a sling with it if I'm in the field for long, the trigger cuts my finger, but it shoots well. But what I've written a number of times about 1100s is that they're like laws and sausages: you don't want to know how they're made.

The wear plate on a 28 gauge is in the top of the receiver so you can get a good angle to re-stake it. Not like the side spring latches. In lieu of staking, for either part, Superglue works fine. I Superglued one of the side spring latches in one of my 1100s about 3 years ago, and now I don't even remember which one it is.

Re-staked the wear plate and all went well this weekend.
Shot the 390ST 12ga for the first time, only had an extended full choke - and went 3 for 3.
The 28ga is the only way to go after doves - IMHO.
Man, I wish Beretta would offer a 390-391 in 28ga.

I used my 20 gauge 1100 to show my stepson that is all you need - he has an LT20 youth model. I usually use my 28 gauge too. With the price of shells I wasn't too sorry to use some Wally World Federal cheapies though.

Man, I wish Beretta would offer a 390-391 in 28ga.

Why? A 391 in 20 weighs 6 lbs. A 28 wouldn't feel, or shoot, any different.

Franchi offers some really light 28 Gauge semiautos, if you want one.

That said, Beretta makes some nice 28's, just not semiautos. Why shoot doves with a semiauto, anyway? If you're going to go there, an O/U or SxS are the only ways to hunt doves -- at least in the US where you only get 3 shots with a semi.

I've Never shot a triple with an O/U; used one for several years dove hunting........my 686 is the older 3 1/2" chambered model and has the bluing wore off the bottom of the receiver.
Besides, I think I'm smitten by the 28ga.
Yes, I do have a beretta 28ga 686.
I just NEED a semi-auto BERETTA 28ga. - it is not the least bit embarrassing to use a Remington Sporting 28 - it is a fine weapon, but.....my wife says it doesn't match my beretta hat

As an 1100 owner, I wouldn't go that far.

Anyway, Franchi makes a 28 Gauge semiauto that's really nice, should you want one.

Less wasted ammo. First one usually either hits a dove, or not. Second works if I'm a little off on the first. Third is a waste, especially since I don't have a different choke as with an O/U.

Never used any other choke (on purpose) for dove besides I.M. in ANY shotgun.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and a Franchi isn't very beautiful - to me.But the Bresica copy(?) 48 is old and neat.
Have a few ES100 models - 2 Pintails and 2 Vittoria's (w/24" barrels) - and although the ES100 is by far the BEST slug set-up I have ever shouldered, it leaves much to be desired on the (inertia) recoil system, ditto for the Franchi's I own. A little stiff for some reason with shot, but a soft/smooth slug shooter- I don't understand how.........
I know, 12ga vs. 28ga recoil is not much of a comparison, but like I stated before - I NEED a Beretta 28ga gas gun.

Franchi's 28s use the Browning Auto 5 system, not the Benelli system. Odd guns, but neat IMHO and indisputably light and lithe.
