Folks,
I know this is a tad bit last minute but just as I thought we had all the slots taken up, I had 2 students cancel. This class I'm hosting is with an instructor in North Carolina by the name of Dean Brevit. I have met Dean on several occasions in the past few months while covering the state IDPA matches in SC & NC.
Dean was a former operator (ex-SAS) and comes highly recommended as an instructor for law enforcement types and civilians. His resume includes the following:
Former British special operations
Instructor for HRT, various police departments (including Salt Lake City just before the last Olympics) and civilians
Member of ASLET, LEAA, NTOA plus IDPA
NRA Certified LE instructor (pistol, shotgun)
Certified SWAT instructor, POST and DOJ
Contract instructor for Special Operations @ Fort Bragg
Not too shabby in the IDPA circuit too
2001 SC State 1st ESP Expert
2001 KY State 1st ESP Expert
2002 SC State 1st ESP Master
2002 NC State 1st ESP Master
2002 Carolina Cup 1st ESP Master
2003 SC State 1st CDP Master
2003 SC State High LEO
2003 Carolina Cup 2nd SSP Master
Dean started his own training group under the name 'Area 52 Training' and I hope for us to be among the first at the new range in NC. This is the same range where the Carolina Cup was hosted.
The class is (once again) inexpensive, $250 for the 2 days. It will include a lowlight shoot on Saturday night AND the use of a shoot house on Sunday. Simply put, Dean's training is somewhat different from the others we've been exposed to so I felt it would do us some good to get a 'different point of view', so to speak.
Class format will include.....
Grip, stance, Presentation.
Presentation from concealment garment.
Shooting on the move, use of cover, kneeling, prone, 90' turns, 180' turns, weapons retention,
Nights shooting, flashlight tech, building clearance
distraction devises, vehicle tech and a practical test.
We will be using the shoot house for room clearance
We will be using cars for vehicle tech.
Dean will be using smoke, gas, small stones, light explosives
to induce stress to the students in the class.
Accommodations..... there is the option of a bunch of motels that are a tad less expensive but I settled on the Best Western 'cos a bunch of us stayed there during the Carolina Cup and we loved this new dig. FYI, DSL is available in all rooms. It's the:
B E S T W E S T E R N
Oxford Inn & Suites
1000 Linden Ave,
Oxford, North Carolina 27565
919-692-1000 Fax: 919-692-1072

They asking for $65 a night for single or double occupancy. Also, Wal-Mart is in the 'hood so you don't have to stress yourself for supplies. I bought everything I needed there.
We'll be joined by a couple of local NC guys and Ed Guerriero from Gunner's Alley. All you forum shooters should know who Gunner's is. So if you need any new gear for the class or such, get in touch with Ed. He'll take care of you.
Any Qs please let me know pronto. Otherwise, this class is gonna rock.
One final note, for those of you who have thought or are thinking about training with Louis Awerbuck, don't wait any longer. Get a slot whenever a class is available 'cos Lou is something else. I've taken the liberty of training with various instructors and I've been lucky thus far to enjoy every single class but just when you thot' you'd had too much instruction, Lou will get you thinking much more than you ever did. It was 3 eye opening days for me. Shotgunning, my friends, has an alias. It's Louis Awerbuck.
Respectfully,
Helmie Ashiblie
