Gabe, "Enhanced Battle Rifle." It's a Star Trekked up (neon/xeon laser/phasers and wind speed indicator) cut-down M14. My boxing instructor used one in the 'stan and during recon of Northern Iraq. Just the Tanker concept from 1945 worked over by the boyz at Crane. Everything old is new again, get out your top hat and cane . . . .
The 6.8mm is the alleged new cartridge that the boyz at Crane (you know the mad scientist type from the Simpsons? "Mr. Simpson with your money I could develop my death ray. Hibeen!") have been buzzing about for years and was finally latched unto by the Devildog brass. The thinking is to increase the caliber to up the "killing power" so the boys do not have to hump as much ammo and have a longer reach to their bow.
Louis had some choice words for this idea. As well, he related that as a yute in SuidVestAfrika, hunting of springbok (weight approx. 90 lbs.) was not allowed with 6mm. He was aghast that the U.S. militree was contemplating using a 6mm against a man who could shoot back. Apparently, Louis may be a top drawer instructor, master rangemaster and former helicopter jumper-out-ofer, but he has no understanding of the REMF mind.
It must be good! It's new!
The 6.8mm is alleged to have its coming out party in '05. Personally (after talking with alleged individuals who allegedly work for the government a few purported counties to the alleged south of me), I don't see how. Too much going on, but look at the M14/M16 transition, smack dab in the middle of the Battle for Viet Nam.
I was going to explain Iwannacoolgunvirus and how things really work in our militree (e.g. the M9 pistola) to him, but that would cut into instruction time. Besides Louis not the chatty type.
"Here's a clue for you, Kirrrk. God gave you two ears and one mouth. So, shut it already!"
Let me know if this is enough.
