I see different divisions for gun types, are there different age groups and beginners to experts within the age groups? I understand different events might differ, but when I look at the events on the internet I only see different weapons divisions. Thanks

Central sanctioning organizations like NRA, ATA, NSSA, USPSA and IDPA have age categories.
They also have skill classifications.
If the 2 gun competition you speak of is affiliated, it will but if it is a local affair, it is just whatever the organizers want to recognize.

Yes, but for the most part age and classifications will not change who you’re shooting with (who is next to you on the line or in your squad), it will only change who your scores are compared against at the end of the day.

In general most shooting sports will have a classification system based on ability. They aren’t perfect, but usually are a decent indicator of how good a person is at shooting that type of competition.

The actual classifications change by sport, so USPSA has Grand Master, Master, A, B , C, etc while High Power Rifle has High Master, Master, Expert, Sharpshooter, and Marksman.

There are also age based classifications, but for the most part it is Junior (under 18) and Veteran (or sometimes Senior) which is usually somewhere around 60+ or 65+. Sometimes you’ll see subcategories (for example, an Under 16 division) but that depends on the sport.
