I bought a brand new sig 229 and I loved the feel of the firearm. I did put a hogue on it and it felt awesome. A little heavy feeling at first due to being used to carrying a glock. Can anyone tell me why the gun failed to lock back after empty. All three magazines did it....but it was sporadic??
Anyway...
Pick combat weapon. Based on, Reliability, weight, function, simplicity, ease of use.
SIG, Glock, HK, CZ, M&P

I have no idea on the first question other than possibly needing to be broken in, but on the second id go for the glock followed by the m&p.

None of the ones listed for me either. There are several very good reasons the US military chose the Beretta.

i voted for hk just because i hate the way glocks feel in my hand they just dont fit it right. i dont have experiance with the others.

Sig Sauer P226 TacOps.

Handle one and read up on one- you will know why I picked it. I really like my piece. Absolutely amazing gun.

rc?

limp wristing shouldnt be the issue....and neither is weak ammo....just regular white box.

I honestly think it may be the firearm....i've owned two other sigs which didnt do it....both were used though....idk if it had something to do with it being brand new....and the tac ops does look good
never had a glock do that either.

how does the tac ops shoot compared to other 226's

just regular white box.
Well, white box isn't the most powerful ammo in the world.

The WWB .380 barely breaks 700 FPS in a Kel-Tec and most other brands do 800+.
Can't say if the 9mm is any better, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Does the slide lock work with all three mags if you pull the slide back on an empty mag?
If they do, the ammo was too weak to fully cycle the slide.

It may after you shoot it enough for the recoil spring to take a set.

rc

true statement mcgunner
haha thanks rc the ammo may be it/along with the recoil spring....they did lock when pulling them back....i sold the sig since due to carrying same as dep. issued. i'd love to shoot the tac ops sig though sh!+ even a regular 226 haha

None of the above. (Browning Hi Power because it just works for me and there is, therefore, no reason to use anything else.)

I had the same issue with my 226 not locking back. The problem was my grip. I kept my right thumb very high up on and close to the frame. In that position my right thumb would acctuate the slide release.

@snowstorm

now i know this is opinion
but why do you think the military chooses the beretta?
i mean most of the members of the military that cary a pistol choose a diff pistol when able to?

Congrats on the new Sig

...

Sig for me -

Next range visit, with each mag, when you get down to the last 2 shots, switch hands, using left as trigger hand, right as support and this will eliminate the possibility of you slightly riding your thumb just under, but enough, to pressure the lock back lever up, ever so lightly with the last shot, as to not engage..

I have 6 Sigs, 5yrs, and never had this problem until my last Sig, last year, a NIB P225nr 9mm and same deal as you in the beginning w/3 new mags that came with it. Worked, didn't work, didn't work more than it worked in the beginning but -

A good Sig friend, from this forum, told me I was riding the lever and I said "no way" but I did the same, switch hands, test he suggested and guess what, it locked back every time w/each mag.

Just had to change my grip a hair and it would lock back every-time and the few now and then's that it doesn't, guess what, and why..? I had to consider it a break-in adjustment for me, and the gun while I never had such an issue with any of my 229/40's, 9mm, 228/9mm or 220R/45 that preceded the 225 by 3 - 5yrs.

It may well be your grip and nothing else.

Luck and do try the test

HK; Accurate, Reliable, Simple, great Customer Service, Rugged...uh..reliable. Lots of configurations to assure a perfect fit to the individual...and reliable.

My HK fits my hand and I can reach everything without shifting grip, I have fired over 2000 rounds and carried almost everyday for 3 years without a single malfunction of any kind (Knock on wood).

greyhambone, if you're having issues with the slide locking back, adjust your grip. I always always ALWAYS hold the slide release down when I switch to my Sigs after shooting the Glocks. A minor grip adjustment fixes it, though.

And congrats on the new Sig!!

To answer the poll, it just depends on my mood. Definitely would be a Sig or Glock. I shoot them best, and am familiar with them.

Cz, hands down.

Ergos, balance, and reliability are second to none.
The trigger isn't the best, but that's something that's not really important to a "combat" arm.

I'd agree with the prior assessments that the failure to lock the slide on empty is a result of the thumb being on the slide lock lever. I just bought my P226R Navy and have run about 450 rounds through it to date without a malfunction except for a failure to lock the slide on empty, but coming from a 1911 which is carried daily and has beens for about the last five years, after paying attention to my grip (which typically is the gun dropped DEEP into my right hand), I found that I was riding the slide stop lever.

Give it a try with the left hand before chalking it up to a failure to lock.

Oh and I voted Sig for the which combat handgun of the listed lot I prefer. I just prefer an all metal gun. I'd put HK as a VERY close second though. I had a USP Compact .40 that was utterly reliable, and as a bonus able to be carried cocked and locked like a 1911, but I'm just not a huge fan of polymer framed guns...my daily carry is a Wilson Combat 1911.

I have five P220s, two P225s and a P239 ... guess how I voted! :D

I will take a Sig anytime. The ergonomics fit my hand great and they are just great weapons. Accuracy and reliability are top notch!

To answer your first question, I would guess that you were holding down the slide lock with either your right or left thumb and didn't know it.
