I voted for the CZ 75 D PCR but you should also check out the Glock 19, S&W M&P9c, and the Ruger SR9c.

I am looking into possibly replacing my CCW. I've been carrying my current model for 2 years and had to send it to Mother for repairs. It always makes me question reliability when this happens. Anyways, please give me your vote and input on a replacement CCW in 9mm. I plan to shoot this gun at least 3,000 rounds per year, probably 5,000.

My rough criteria is in the following ranked order from most important to least:

  1. Reliability (feeding and function)
  2. Company Customer Service (do they pay for shipping in the gun at least for the 1st year after purchase; would be nice if they offer lifetime customer service but not mandatory)
  3. Height (Ideal 4.3" as in M&P9c; Maximum 5.5" as in M&P9; Good compromise might be 5.0" as in G19 or HK P2000 )
  4. Width (I am comfortable with Walther p99 which is 1.3"; obviously thinner is better but comes at a price of capacity; I've never carried a 1.5" Sig, kinda worried how thick that might feel all day carrying)
  5. Prefer DA/SA; next would be a trigger with 7# or higher weight or ability to convert; might consider HK LEM or Sig DAK or a smooth DAO trigger
  6. Fit to my Hand (I know you can't help me this one necessarily but I have average sized man hands)
  7. Durability (how long the gun will last)
  8. Ease of Handling and Controls
  9. Capacity (Minimum 10 rounds; prefer 13 or more)

There are guns in the poll that don't necessarily fit some of my criteria but I wanted to leave them on for argument sake. The criteria are there to let you know what I prefer but not to totally exclude guns that don't fit all my criteria.
Seems like you had a HiPoint before (re: mother)
But most of us call the mfg. MOM lol

Most of us that hang out at HPFF
(hi point firearms forums)

HP is huge for a carry weapon... :what:

underGRGround,

The gun I sent back to the manufacturer (Mother) isn't a HP. I didn't name the manufacturer in my original post. It actually is one of the guns listed in the poll. I've carried two of the guns in the poll, and I've had to send both of them in for service. I sold the first one, because I had to send it in TWICE within a year of purchase. I believe it was properly fixed, but just had doubts about it's future.

The latest gun I had to send in, has a very good reputation for not having problems (it's not a Glock though).

Maybe I'm too rough on my guns.

I have shot most of the guns on your list and own many of them. If money is no problem i would go for the P2000 but i love the LEM trigger on the HK. I have converted all of mine to LEM after i got my P2000. As a side note i have very large hands so guns with larger grips fit my hands better. You really need to try to shoot as many as you can to decide on your purchases.

Yes glock still rules by majority. However since I got my ppq my glock has been collecting dust, but he's not disappointed because he needed a rest. All these guns are really good guns. Can't go wrong with any IMHO

That's funny my glock just collects dust also tho fine for a drawer gun I find a full sized 1911 easier to carry so the glock never gets out much.

I voted for the CZ PCR will fell great in the hand like it was molded to you and its DA/SA.

I appreciate all the replies. I was really thinking hard about a Glock 19 or 26, but just can't get past the feel. I am sure if I fired one 500 rounds, I would keep it and never look back after making the adjustment to the grip feel. You just can't beat the parts availability.

Just to let you know, I have narrowed it down to one of the following:

  • Walther P99
  • CZ75 D PCR (or P-01)
  • H&K P30 Long Slide without the safety

The poll went a long way in helping me make an informed decision.

I've also looked at a CZ P-02, which was touted to have a safety that could be changed to a decocker but there is still no sign of available parts like the P-01 has. It has the Omega trigger.

If you prefer DA/SA you'd be hard pressed to find more reliable weapons that the two HKs you have listed. I have a P30L, and while it's not my carry gun it is the most accurate 9mm I've ever owned. And I've owned a bunch.

If reliability is important and your round count estimate is accurate, it's HK all the way.

It sounds like its time to try on some guns!

I have the PCR and the reason I chose it was I wanted a traditional DA/SA hammer fired gun with a de-cocker. Plus, I still wanted old school metal throughout.

Now, I think the P-01 is a great option, too. What I like about it is:

1. If you replace the rear sight, you won't have a gap on the slide like the PCR would leave.

2. It has a rail if needed.

3. It has a longer slide release than the PCR. Yet you can use a P-01 slide release in a PCR. (I do.)

4. It doesn't have a strange loaded chamber indicator. The PCR's LCI is nice, but it appears a bit flimsy and is something else to keep an eye on with its little plunger and spring. I personally like a Glock type LCI the best where it is simply part of the extractor.

A con of the PCR and the P-01 is they are not pretty polished and blued.

A pro of the PCR and the P-01 is they are coated in rust resistant "poly-coat", which I call paint. :D

Time to hit the range. Still, though, try the Glocks (and really as many others as you can afford). How a gun feels doesn't speak to how it shoots.

Well, I voted for the Couger because I'm a Beretta girl....but if not a Beretta, I'd go for the Glock 19 which meets all your required features....

Laura

I voted for both the Glock 19, and SIG P229. I would be most comfortable with either of these. While there are certainly some other decent, EDC-worthy guns on the list, none would receive any consideration once the G19 and P229 came into the picture.

Edit:

Just saw that the OP made a narrowed down to three guns, "which the poll helped with." This makes no sense given the three choices are nowhere near top three in the list, but okay.

Thanks again. I actually did go by the range today and tried out 2 guns on the list. I shot a CZ75 PCR and a HK P30.

For clarity, I have carried a P99 for 18 months, but had to send it in due to trigger problems. I just got back a free replacement from Walther today!!!

Also, my son carries a Glock 19 which I've shot quite a bit. I held a Gen4 recently thinking it might fit my hand better, but I still don't prefer the feel, though it's a great gun, no doubt.

Anyway, the CZ shot incredibly well. I liked everything about the trigger. I did not find the reach too long in DA, like I have heard. And the reset is great. My only complaint is the small slide. Seems like racking the slide involves more fine motor skills than I would want to depend on during a self defense situation. Don't get me wrong though; I would love to get this gun and see if I could overcome that. People aren't kidding when they talk about the grip of the CZ. It feels even better when shooting it. My groups were way better with the CZ.

The P30 shot well, but the trigger reset was too long for my taste.

The poll did indeed help. It almost influenced me to the Glock and gave me new respect for it. The CZ came to the forefront based on it's high numbers. The Sig P229 and M&P9c got high numbers but after doing more research I decided they wouldn't be for me. 229 is too thick and heavy. And I just want to stick with DA/SA, so the M&P was out. The P30 made my short list, mostly because I've always wanted one and it fit my criteria really well.

What I'd really like is to order one of every guns on the list :)

For now, I'm keeping the P99 and saving up for a CZ75 PCR (or P-01 or P-02) :D
