I was able to go to the range both Saturday AND Sunday to bring out my '61 Navy after a month of having been away (no shooting of any type).

Saturday was great, and the Navy outshot my bro-in-law's new Taurus 45 ACP. I don't know if the Taurus has bad sights, if the recoil is too great, but the navy with it's nimble recoil and puny sights proved to be the more accurate of the two.

Sunday was great too, weather slightly cooler, although the range was crowded. I set up some fun targets (full water bottles) and had a blast. I tried the Zippo trick for the front sight and it worked great. The guy next to me (had a ruger .44 Magnum) fell in love with the Navy and was asking me all kinds of questions about it, so I let him have a few shots and that was enough to convince him to get a BP! He even wanted to get it that same day hehehe.

Can't wait for the weather to cool down in the fall, so I can make the range days even longer...

The Zippo trick I picked up from one of our members here. I have very shiny front sight so you hold a flame under it to darken it with the carbon buildup. It makes it much more visible.

The Zippo trick needs to be done with a flame burning from a wick, like a Zippo lighter or a candle, because it produces a smoke containing pure carbon. A BIC lighter won't produce enough carbon to work.

Keep the sight out of the flame or it will burn off the carbon deposited by the smoke.
