Everyone knows that I think Beretta 92Gs are the best and would never be caught with a 1911 :banghead: ... and I would never even consider one... :scrutiny: but someone I know wanted me to post a few questions on the Sig GSR

1. Will Carbon Creations carbon fiber grips fit the Sig or is the grip somehow different? The person who wanted me to ask said this is critical in the decisionmaking process and would rule out the Sig of the carbon fiber grips didn't fit :uhoh:

2. Will the GSR fit 1911 with light rail holsters like a holster made for the Springfield Operator or Kimber RL models or would this person have to have a faux carbon fiber pattern concealex holster made by sending his/her gun to Blade-Tech?

As for question 1. Yes the grips will fit just fine I have them on my GSR and looks nice. As for the Holster I am not sure but I would think it would.

Making do with a non-GSR holster...

While waiting for a better holster, I picked up a Springfield Fobus holster (don't remember the model) because the one I found was clearly made for a gun with a light rail.

It seemed to work, but every time I tried drawing the gun, it would catch, unless is pressed inward on the butt. When I pressed inward on the butt, I also pressed the mag release button, which caused the mag to slip out a bit...

It was frustrating.

As a short-term fix, I have a commercial heat gun -- for removing floor tiles, etc. -- and heated up the holster in the area where the mag release was rubbing, and stretched the plastic outward. That seems to have solved the problem, until I can find a GSR-specific holster.

Wild Bill's has them, but there's an 8-week wait... <sigh>

I've had the GSR since March and it any aftermarket grips will fit.
I also have a BladeTech made specifically for the GSR, though at the time CF was not an option.

Although there have been many detractors of the GSR, and many documented initial problems with the pistol, I have been very happy with mine. It did make one trip back to the SIGhospital for a two-week stay, but came back healthy. It's been used extensively since without a hiccup. I would suggest handling/inspecting one before purchase rather than ordering it. That way you can look for the telltale probs.

PM me if you want specifics, or do a search over at sigforum or 1911forum.

:)

You know what Skunky, I had a chance to fondle one recently. It does have a slightly different "feel" vs. traditional 1911's like those from Colt & SA, but looked at as a complete firearm, it seemed pretty cool. If I already didn't have my Colt, I might consider the GSR
Tell your firend good luck on his quest!

10-ring, who had one?

One of my friends wants to know if there are any plans to introduce a non-rail model.
