2 UCLA Profs Quit Over Gun Incident :neener:
Saturday, January 22, 2005

LOS ANGELES — Two tenured art professors have resigned from the University of California, Los Angeles, because the school refused to suspend a graduate student who may have used a gun during a classroom performance art piece. :what:

Chris Burden (search) and Nancy Rubins (search), internationally known artists who taught at UCLA for more than two decades, filed their retirement papers Dec. 20.

"They feel this was sort of domestic terrorism. There should have been more outrage and a firmer response," said Sarah Watson (search), a director at a Beverly Hills gallery that represents the couple.

In the brief performance on Nov. 29, the student appeared to point a loaded handgun at his head and pull the trigger, a student and law enforcement officials told the Los Angeles Times. :what:

==========================================

No doubt these are GFWs and leftists (what artist isn't?). However, bringing a loaded gun to a college and pulling the trigger is considered performance art, right???? Anyway, good riddance profs. :)

So they don't even know if this for sure was a real gun?? If it was real, loaded, and the trigger was pulled I'm pretty sure they'd know it.

I heard this on radio. It sounded like a PLAY they were doing for class. The school didn't feel it was any big deal but this couple did. Don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you.

Is there anything below ''Zero tolerance''?? Some negative value ... it sure would seem needed here. :banghead:

Anyone heard of the word ''prop'' as in stage prop?. Sheesh. Oh sorry - of course - it was a GUN!!!

two world famous artist resigned? boohoo. like that part "appeared to have". wasnt this a play where Everything is "appeared to have"?? this is not nearly as stupid as those two grade school kids that were suspended for one: had a pink plastic pistol about an inch long and two: drew a picture of a gun on a piece of paper. remember - its for the children. and no tolerance means NO TOLERANCE and no brains required either.

.

Two things caught my attention.

#1 Art professors
#2 U.C.L.A.

Enouigh said......

Liberal twits........ :barf:

According to the LA Times, this is the same Chris Burden who had an fellow student shoot him in the arm with a .22 for an art demonstration while he was a graduate student at UC Irvine in the 1970's for an art project entitled "Shoot".

Evidently, Burden feels his project was OK because it was controled and the audience was never in jeopardy, but feels this recent incident is different.

Two losers that won't be missed.

These two need a real lesson in domestic terrorism. Cancel their retirement and tell them it is needed to balance the budget. If they are such renown artists let them sell their works to the public.

I'd be willing to bet that those same two professors, who were obviously "threatened" by the use of a firearm in art, probably heaped much praise on the "art" consisting of a statute of the Virgin Mary covered in excrement, or a crucifix submerged in a jar of urine. (Both are actual art displays)

:D

These guys need to stay away from my area. The Children's Theatre presented Swiss Family Robinson , "children" with replica firearms that made noise, and smoke...swords/ knives too... noise and cutting rope!

It WAS for the Children! :neener:

What a concept!

Somebody should turn this play into a roadshow and tour all the liberal campuses across the country. No telling how many blissninny professors would go into hysterics and early retirement. Then the teaching position would be open to someone with a more rational veiw of the world. ;)
