20 Gauge for HD Use.....How Many Use It and Like It???

I have been very satisfied with my 20g Remington 870 and Mossberg 500. So satisfied that I don't even shoot my 12g very much anymore. The 20g is perfectly acceptable for HD with #3 buck or whatever you choose to use. The reduced recoil of the 20g is also an added plus for follow up shots if the need arises. And 20g slugs are my personal favorite, and I keep a good supply on hand.

Top choice is 1970s 10ga Ithaca police semi-auto with 18.5" barrel and 18 pellet SG buckshot load. It's at it's best with recoil pad replaced by HARD plastic butt plate.

SG is pretty hard to find over here !!! ;) :D

Gun above is an 1100 LT-20 Special, fitted with an LT-20 20" rifle-sights smooth-bore slug barrel. The 3-round magazine is fed w/ 20-gauge Federal #3 buck 20 pellet.*

Below that is a 12 ga Wingmaster fitted with a Mossberg-made-for-870 cyl. bore 18/5" barrel. It's 4-round mag tube holds Fiocchi LE00 9-pellet buck (1150 fps double-aught).

The LT-20 Special is quite a bit lighter than it's 20 gauge 1100 siblings, and far lighter than the 870 pictured below it. My wife is 5'1", and the LT-20 fits her very well, whereas she cannot comfortably shoulder the 12 ga 870.

*"Maximum 20 pellet"...
