I have a chance to pick up a lightly used 2003 Sumit Viper climbing stand. I know Summit upgraded the cable retention system on thier climbers in 2004 to using the quickdraw system with the trigger release.
My question;

Do any of you guys havean older model Summit?

If so is the older cable system a problem?

I can pick up the 2003 model lightly used for less than $150.00. Would it be worth the extra money to wait and get a improved version or snap up a deal on the used model?

Thanks

I have an older Viper and have no trouble at all with the cable lok system. I haven't seen the new system to determine if it is any improvement but can have my stand on tree and climbing in less than 3 mins (but usually take more like 10)

I have an older Viper as well and have never had a problem with the cable system. The one advantage that the new Viper has over the old one is the climbing stirrups. You can add these to the older style but it will add another $20 to your cost. Check out Archerytalk.com's classified section -- I've seen Viper's sell for as low as $125 shipped.
