Earlier, there was a thread about our gun plans for 2016, seen here. Well, I have an update!
My listed goals were:
Finish move to KY
Get KY CCW
Build reloading bench in new place
Shoot IDPA more often
Build AR
Shoot more often than I did this year
Reload more ammo than I can shoot
Vote

The update:
Completed the move to KY
Just applied for my KY CCW, literally tonight
Didn't build a bench, but bought one from Home Depot, picture to follow
Have yet to shoot IDPA, but I fully intend to
Have acquired parts for an AR build (Aero upper and lower, DD barrel)
Have yet to have time to shoot, hope to find a place to shoot this weekend
Have not had time to reload yet
No elections yet

First, picture of the bench, I really like it, especially considering the $70 price tag, pre assembled

Second, does anyone know the turnaround for online KY CCDW applications? I believe via snail mail is around the 60 day time frame. Also, people only seem to tell me to go find an abandoned strip mine to go shooting (I moved to Hazard), but being from the Cincinnati area, does me next to no good. Does anyone know of someplace?

What about the rest of you? Make any progress on your 2016 gun plans?

I like the bench. I might have to get one too. My plan is to get into reloading 9mm and 45acp soon. Don't know about your question pertaining to the Kentucky permit but I'm envying the bench setup.

I got the barrel I wanted for my AR10 build for Christmas and bought my PRI float tube last month so my build is coming along. Still need my bcg, gas block and tube, charging handle, muzzle device and optics but I hope to have the rifle minus optics completed this year.

Just a suggestion for the top of the bench. I used the laminate covered particle board for the top of mine as it is much easier to keep clean. Like I clean mine anyway.....

Goals, 2016:
-Spend way less on guns/shooting & parts kits this year, & save it instead
-Learn to weld decently
-Start stitching together & completing some semi-auto builds I've been stockpiling
--Hotchkiss Universal
--Beretta MP38
--Madsen LMG
-Re-kindle my passion for wood joinery, at least temporarily, since it's cheaper than metalworking
-Get back into reloading, & try to use up all my components (the only sure way I'll buy more of them :D)

Update, January 2016:
-Failed on all counts, and then some :p

However, I am now inspired to combine some of my goals, and build a reloading bench --thanks!

I want to get into the AK weapons platform this year. I just bought a DDI stamped 7.62x39, and a Russian plum stock kit.

Got my 6720 and G19---a few mags and ammo

New plans:
1.Aimpoint Pro---for the 6720
2.Benelli M2---probably a 21in or 24in barrel
3.Colt 1911
4.686 or GP100

Then start saving every penny cause my gun buying spree is done.

I probably would have put the powder measure over on the other end, where the scales and powder are.

But more importantly?

I would HIGHLY recommend you put ALL the powder somewhere else entirely, except the one container you are using out of at any time.

The year is still young, but I'm making strides.

I'm going to Form 1 my 5.56 AR pistol for a decent SBR.

Paperwork is all printed out. I'm hesitating on filing it, may just wait til after 41F goes active and the forms are updated.

First, I'm going to build or buy complete, a .450 Bushmaster upper.

This is actually on the back burner. Still in the plans, but probably won't be this year.

I'm also going to build a 9mm upper, carbine length. The plan is to cut and weld the Uzi mag well into the steel lower and have a fun little 9mm Road Warrior-esque plinking range toy.

Stalled out. Need a 9mm upper to measure parts against, mostly concerning the feed ramp.

As for the poly lower, I'm thinking of a minimalist, light weight take down rifle.

Turns out this go the most attention. All parts on ordered or on hand, just waiting for the hand guard to come in.

I am thinking of a Form 1 supressor (or maybe just buy one and transfer).

This is still in the pipeline, but it'll be for a .300 BO build.

I'm also thinking of a mid-bore caliber, either .300 AAC or 6.5 Grendel. I haven't decided on either just yet. Still weighing the factors and trying to pinpoint my own purpose for this rifle. It's the lowest priority on the project list

Decided on a .300 Blackout build, short barrel, suppressed. This is my next build, likely, with a late 2016 completion date. Earlier if I postpone my SBR filing.

I have no real plans for shotguns or pistols, other than get a better stock of handgun mags for what I already have.

This is a impulse buy when I have a spare buck.

Very nice bench, especially for that price! Second the notion of getting some sort of laminate top. My old bench had a plexiglass cover on it and it really made it easy to keep the surface clean.

Thanks for the advice everyone. That picture was taken right after I had unpacked the bench and components. I was just trying to keep it all kinda neat, and will rearrange before I start back to reloading. As to the plexiglass/laminate cover, how would you mount it? I literally only have two crescent wrenches, so I can't even take my press and stand off off my bench right now. Guess I should add another thing to my 2016 list, obtain some tools...

Home Depot and like stores have particle board with the laminate already attached. I used two layers of 3/4" on the top of my bench as it makes a much sturdier base for your press. I used carriage bolts or lags (depending on what was beneath the attaching points) to attach the press, wood screws for the powder measure, and I use bar clamps to mount the case trimmer front and center when trimming brass and then it goes on a shelf so it is not in the way for the rest of the operation.

Used kitchen cabinets bought from Craig's list or garage sales are also very handy for reloading table storage. I have a three door unit directly over the bench with a 4' LED light fixture mounted beneath it to illuminate the entire bench and a two door unit on the side wall. I still have more stuff than room though.....

In this day and age, I think it would be hard to match the price of the Home Depot bench. I may just have to take a look at that one. Looks stable enough. I have a need in that department.

Why Hazard? Most people I know move away from Hazard. :D I used to live in Harlan County or across Pine Mountain. KY is the only state that I know where you live in a county. :D WV may be like that.

Have another update! I applied online for my KY CCDW last night at 7:30, got the email today at 10:30 saying it has been approved and should be ready for pickup late next week! That's pretty quick turnaround.

Why Hazard? I went to Morehead State, served in the KYARNG unit in Morehead, and am engaged to a wonderful girl from Lee County (Beattyville if you must have a city). In short, I fell in love with the region, and the people from it. Also, I got a pretty good job down here working for Morehead as well.

On a side note, I wanna explore Pine Mountain, is there good hiking up there? I'd love to show those hills to my Glock 20

Congratulations. I learned to love Eastern KY, and especially Harlan and Bell Counties. X-wifee went to Morehead. Current wife is from Lynch. Check out Cumberland Falls, Kingdom Come and Pine Mt SP's for day hikes. You might feel comfortable carrying the Glock in Kingdom Come as there are lots of black bears wandering around.

You have room on the bottom shelf for the powder. RC's suggestion is a good one. You don't want to get confused as to which powder you are using at any particular time.

I've been to Kingdom Come, it's beautiful up there. I've carried the Glock all over the Gorge as well. Guess I'll add Pine Mountain to the list, along with Cumberland

I was just about dis-owned by my wife over the KY-TN basketball game as I was supporting TN. Never spent much time in the Red River Gorge. It is a very snakey place, but so are most of the mountains in Eastern KY. Watch your feet!

Do you by chance have a pdf of the Glock Armorer's manual. Mine has sort of disappeared. I took the class a couple years ago down here in TN.
