Lt. Col Robert K. Brown USAR (Ret) has published his endorsements for 2016 NRA Board of Directors. He is a long time NRA Director and he is known for only endorsing individuals he has researched carefully. If you have been a NRA Annual Member FIVE YEARS without a break in service you should receive a ballot in your NRA magazine. If you are a Life Member or higher you should receive a ballot as well.

If you meet one of the above and did not get a ballot in magazine call 800 672 3888 and have your NRA member number available. Ask them to mail you a ballot. I have heard from three friends that normally get ballots but apparently they had become detached in the mail. Ballots must be filled out, SIGNED ON THE ENVELOPE and mailed back and received by ballot counting firm by MAY 1, 2016.

Last year the NRA sent out 2, 335,000 ballots and only 115,000 voted.

Here is the link to his list in SOF Mag:

PS: Forgot, I am adding Harold J. "Hap" Rocketto, a long time friend I have shot with since the 1970s. He will be a great asset to the board as well.

I would greatly appreciate your forwarding the above link to your lists. Many thanks.

Update, just got contacted by life member in Eastern PA who is a member of a gun club on the NY, NJ,PA section and at their meeting last night a number of folks were saying there was no ballot in their March magazines.

He called the above number and was told they were getting a number of calls from folks that did not get ballots.

I called a Board Member on the Elections Committee and he told me he needed to know the ZIP codes of folks that did not get a ballot.

You should have received a ballot if:

If you have been a continuous annual member for the last five years without a break in service.

If you are a LIFE Member, Patron, Endowment or Benefactor you should have received a ballot.

If you did not get a ballot please reply with your ZIP code, I will pass them to that member of the committee so it can be covered in their upcoming meeting.

Call the 800 672 3888 and tell them NOW that you need a ballot. Ballots have to be back by May 1st.

my ballot was in the march mag

'ol teddy boy didn't get my vote unfortunately, which is saying something bc there's a good number of votes you can cast

I've been meaning to ask... you don't have to vote for a full 25 candidates, do you? I perused the stuff fairly carefully, and didn't see any specific mention of that. If you send in a ballot with, say, only 20 candidates (instead of 25) marked, will that invalidate the ballot?

no, 20 is ok

just no more than 25

takes a while to read through all the profiles

CLP is exactly right, vote for more than 25 and it is thrown out. I saw the last year totals and it told how many ballots were discarded because of too many votes and not signing the envelope.

I know folks that only vote for one person, some two or three. I generally don't vote for over ten. Unless you are real good at reading between the lines you are taking a stab unless you trust someone else's judgement who knows more.

One of my best friends commanded II Corps Mike Force in Nam and he worked for Bob Brown and he told me all about him before he died in 83 and had nothing but the highest praises for his integrity. That was good enough for me. If Bob gives a thumbs up, its a GO IMHO.

You have to put your entire credentials in 150 Words. Try putting the last 30 years of your life in 150 words.

Thanks for the info that voting for less than 25 is OK. I used to vote for exactly 25, but that last five or so was a real struggle. Last year I decided that maybe I was voting for candidates where there might be better ones anyway, and I would be "diluting" the votes of those who knew better than I.

Ready to mail it in now, six votes short.

Curious about the zip code thing. Is there some thought that ballots have gone missing in certain areas?

Interested because I didn't even get my March magazine.

2nd Update: The Secretary of the NRA called me yesterday and he is looking into this and is obviously concerned. He confirmed 800 672 3888 is the correct number to call and added some critical info.

1. If by their records you are eligible you will see a RIBBON flag on the top right of the front cover of the magazine that says: Official NRA Ballot inside, then next line has VOTE! and in smaller print below that "You are a voting member!"

2. About the middle of the magazine you should find the ballot. Note there are five different ballots so if someone sends you numbers to vote for it is useless. They change the location of the names five times to get people's names off the back end the ballot.

3.If you do not have the RIBBON on the front there should not be a ballot inside.

4. If you get a digital download for your magazine the ballot will be mailed to you via snail mail. They just went out last week so he said to give it two more weeks for them to arrive.

5. You have to have your ballot in their hands May 1.

6. Make absolutely sure you sign the envelope on the outside in the appropriate place.

I just had a conversation with a good friend who renewed membership over a year ago and he has been sick and just realized he did not have magazines. I told him to call the above and he did and he was told their records indicated he was signed up to receive digital mags. He told them he never received anything from NRA via computer and he wanted a hard copy magazine and he never requested digital mag.

7. If you are absolutely sure you have been a annual member over five years WITHOUT A BREAK IN SERVICE you should have received a ballot. Call the 800 number above and have your member card ready.

I would just like to second Hummer70's recommendation that you vote for the people included in the link that he provided. I have known one of candidates for many years, and heartily endorse Mark Humphreville as a board member in particular. Personally, I am having an issue with the NRA, as I have yet to receive my March issue of the American Rifleman magazine. I called them this week and they said they will be sending me another one. Having been an NRA member for at least 35 years, there darn well better be a ballot in it.

Don

Thanks Don. Yes I have complete confidence in Bob Brown's endorsements. I would really like to see my friend Harold J. Rocketto get elected but he is in Rhode Island and I am told they need to get regional votes.

I went to a gun show Sunday and spotted a guy wearing a shirt with a big NRA logo on it. He had just pulled by me as I was parking and we got to talking and as it turned out he was from Chicago and down here for the winter.

We got to talking and he said when he gets a ballot the first thing he does is go down the ballot and vote for everyone from the South as he knows the highest majority of pro gun people are down here and he said just as soon as his wife retires he is bailing out of Chicago and heading to South Carolina and he can't wait. The next category he votes for is competition shooters. He did not know about the SOF list and I told him he could find it in the biggest book stores in malls or go on to their website and buy a copy cheaper(no tax) and also get back issues he could download and access in a cloud.

I notified a NRA Director about your not getting mag. He is on election committee and he is concerned. Sent you a email a few minutes ago. PM. Hummer

Me, Post 4:

The answer, as shown by others, is that you can vote for fewer than 25.

I suspect, and I shall write to them about this, that they'd get better than only 115,000 responses out of 2,335,000 ballots if they would emphasize that fact. Or at least state it more prominently somewhere.

I was never sure about that "fewer than 25" voting, and I really struggled to fill out that imagined 25 requirement, mostly using candidates' locations as my last-ditch criterion.

I have a few favorites for whom I always vote, but sometimes it's quite a chore to get to 25. As I said before, my less-than-informed voting to get to 25 may be diluting the votes of other members who might be better informed than I.

230RN, yes I am the same way. I don't think I have ever gone over 12.

A director friend explained to me a theory that seems quite logical.

1. folks want to SEE who they are voting for.
2. 98% of the members have never seen a director (alive or dead)

Many folks follow the nominating committee. As a rule I don't as I don't know them either.

There are a few directors I know that did get their nod and of course I voted for them. They also got Bob Brown's endorsement.

I know Directors that have got his endorsement in the past so I feel comfortable in following his judgment. As indicated above he was great friends with a great friend of mine who had nothing but good words for Bob.

A good friend stated many years ago that he would rather have friends than money and the longer I live I tend to agree with his logic.

GBXPAT Glad you did, hope you vote for the list. Before you bailed did you do any shooting at Bisley?

I knew Andrew Tucker, Dick Danik and know Nigel Hawkins.

Thanks for the reminder!

I never leave the choices up to others. We vote for the board members when the ballot goes out!

Good news, I'm be a lifer once the EPL plan is complete.

I've been busy with family health issues the last few months and hadn't even looked at the March issue yet. Thanks for the heads up with the thread.

Ansel Hazen, just sent you a PM. If you will send me your NRA member number and a phone number (viaPM) I will forward them to a NRA Director in Columbia. He is on the election committee and is concerned and has already called the NRA Secretary on this who called me.

Thank you Hummer for the email. Just responded.

For others wondering, the mailman gave mine to a neighbor, who apparently found it a good read. Just got it this morning.

I of course took the opportunity to let him know that if he joined he'd get his own. :)

Got a email from my NRA Director friend on the Elections Committee asking if anyone else did not get ballot.

Tried to call and had problems connecting.

Still has not received ballot.

Missing ballot from magazine marked VOTE!! in the ribbon at a 45° angle on top right on front cover.

Any other problems?

I've posted this before, but I'll say it again. Every candidate runs against every other candidate. So the guy with the most votes gets the first post, the guy with the second most gets the second post and so on.

This means if you have a favorite slate of candidates, vote ONLY for those candidates. DO NOT cast all 26 votes. Any votes you cast beyond those for the guys you really want are votes for their opponents.
