So far this year I've been handed two pistols, empty mags out and separate, with rounds hiding in the chambers, both weapons are of the type without magazine safeties.
My father saved my later drill sergeant the trouble of being into my head the importance of clearing a weapon by doing it when I was about 7 or so. First time I handled any gun (A Mattel Fanner 50, actually) toy or real, I was to make sure it wasn't loaded. A Fanner 50 had what they called "shootin' shells", small spring loaded plastic pellets that could, potentially, shoot your eye out.
I posted on our store FB page about it because reminders like that deserve repeating.
