I’m planning on trying to take a deer with my 44 special Ruger Blackhawk. Haven’t ever taken one with a handgun. Then, late season, I want to take a bobcat with a handgun. That’ll be a real trophy. Not sure what I’ll do with the skin but I’m wanting to save it for either a full mount or have a hat with flaps made from it. Plan to eat the meat, provided I can get it prepared decent.

I think a Bobcat hat is the best use of a bob-cat. Mounts just take up space and get dusty. The cougar I got a couple of seasons ago is/was the best, most delicious wild meat I've ever tasted. Cannot tell it from the best, highest quality pork. No game taste at all. Bobcat might be pretty good if that's any indication.

Big year for me as I’m moving from the Pacific Northwest to the south east. Excited to be able to shoot more than one deer ( god willing) this season, not to mention the scourge of the south, hogs.
I’m wanting to take one with one of my Blackhawks this year, first time with a handgun. A 44spl or 41mag. Maybe both if I can.
As far as rifles go I’m going to be is using my free Walmart closeout savage axis in .243win. As well as my savage 340 in 30-30 using a cast bullet.

A bear taken with a rock lock. Way to go Ugly Sauce.

Thanks. Yeah, that rifle has taken three deer and a bear so far. Have not got a shot at an Elk, they are getting harder to find as the wolf population increases. Coincidence of course. That .54 should work great.

I’ve heard bobcat is okay from some and heard it isn’t from others. But everyone says mountain lion is great.

My wife is not happy with the idea of either the hat or the mount. Lol.

Before I ever tasted cougar, I got a million different answers as to eating it. Really could not find anyone who actually had. Myself, I was kind of thinking that eating any kind of cat could not be good, but some ethnic groups like house-cat just fine. So...tried it and WOW! However, I imagine that like any other kind of wild game, taste can vary. Most of the time deer is delicious, but sometimes an old buck or something can be pretty rank, or strong. Only one way to find out!!

Are you going to call it in, or chance encounter?

Chance encounter. I’ve seen two here on my farm. One down the deer trail late in deer season. The other behind the house mid afternoon in winter. I always have my 44 so, next one I see in season, If I have time and a clean shot, I can take. I also have the bobcat permit that’s now required in the state. But I’m thinking of setting out in a nestled spot and waiting overlooking the trail some coke season. Specially if I was to kill a deer first, late, the carcass would be good bait.

My shoulder won’t allow me to shoot bow any longer so my early season is crossbow if’n I hunt then.
Win model 94 30-30
Rem 700 30-06
CVA Optima V2 .50 cal muzzleloader

That would be old school photography. But on second thought, we might NOT want to see you in a bear-cat skin loin-cloth. !!

Start shooting my 2022 Blackwidow PSA2 this weekend.
46# @28", 58" limbs.
Rotator not torn but still have issues w impingement. Ouchy.
Couldnt use right arm to change Jeep oil filter yesterday. I draw right so maybe it'll be OK (injection after MRI a month ago).

Reminds me to order new First Lite bibs (solitude). They only had Large last yr when the sale was going so I tried it being borderline size wize. Nope, I need the XL.
So need to order that and the jacket this month. Even if not on sale (ouch).

So if shoulder holds up, Blackwidow recurve.
If problematic and doc still says OK (he shut me down last yr).........my compound is a Hoyt Torrex, only 58# (Fletchunter release).

Rifle will be my .35 rem 760 or my .30-06 Steyr PH (not yet blooded).

Hope Im tagged out before the cold n nasty late season. Thatd be recurve and or TC Hawken .50 Silver Elite.

Rifles should already be figured out. A good, broken in pair of boots and good glass. BTW, if I was still hunting, 7x57 Mauser for deer/antelope, 30-06 for elk.

Yeah, my binos are 10x and a bit jittery for in the field. I keep em in my truck for checking fields.
Proly need a set of 8x that are 32mm, keep em light.

I have heard the same about pronghorns. Personally, I didn't care for it, but my compadre thought that it was great. I'll take whitetail venison over pronghorn any day.

As for goodies for the next season I have a new pair of Danners ordered, 2 new trail cameras, new leaf camo, and a couple of new Vortex Diamondbacks, a Leupold and I am looking at another climbing stand. I figure that this year's deer will cost me close to $15 lb if I fill all six tags.

Reminds me to hop on First Lite website. Need lightweifht early season pants and bibs/ jacket for November.

Hate spending money but also hate being uncomfortable LOL

I don't anticipate any changes to my guns for this year. For rifle I'll be using my Marlin XS-7 in 7mm-08 (though I may be hydrodipping the black stock to a camo pattern). Muzzle loader I'll be using my CVA Wolf. Shogtun Stoeger 2000 (if I go duck hunting - which I likely won't).

About the only thing on my "to buy" list is a new set of chest waders and a new backpack.
