G'Day All,
I'd be interested to know how popular the 204 Ruger is in the USA. Here in Australia it has become a very popular round for varmit shooting especially.

I have a Kimber Pro Varmit in this caliber and absolutely love both the round and the rifle. Prior to the release of the 204 I have always owned and used the .22-250 for all my varmit shooting and while I still think the .22-250 is a great round, I much prefer the 204.

What say you on this round in the US??

Regards,

Marty

It's moderately popular here. Several offerings available at most large stores. But still pales in comparison to .223 and .22-250. Just a wild guess - at one large local gun store, there are perhaps 3-5 rifles in stock in .204 Ruger, approx. 15-20 available in .22-250, and approx. 25-30 available in .223 rem. It's a pretty good round actually, I will admit. The recoil of a .223 with the range / trajectory of a .22-250. But still expensive right now for factory ammo.

I've also got a Kimber Pro Varmint in .204 and share your love for both the rifle and round.

Fantastic EXCEPT, you can't get the same numbers from it reloading as you do with factory. They use proprietary loading.

Having an AR upper with "are you kidding me" velocity sounds good, but it's not going to replace my Rem 700 VSSF 22-250.

If I REALLY wanted that kind of velocity, I would start messing around with a .22 CHeetah.

I think it's becoming very popular over here, I sure do here a lot about it.

I picked up a Ruger Hawkeye Stainless a few months back, to good of a deal to pass up. Just recently scoped it up and if the weather ever straightens out, I'll get it sighted in. It'll replace my light weight .223.
