20ga ammo thin supplies

I bought a sweet 20 ga Stoger Uplander on advice against recoil and health problems.
I love the English lines of the Uplander but the Gauge is the problem!
Ammo supplies are in dire need of supply! Only shells availble are usually 2 3/4" #7 1/2 and the biggest I found till the Gun Show this weekend was some Phesant loads in #4. Luckilly the Gun Show had some boxes of Slugsto be had. Not the best choice for indoors but at least give some teeth to the litle double!
There were lots of 12ga Buckshot Loads at the show but noone had a 20ga load of any sort.
Be aware that you can light load a 12 ga withPhesant loads and have about the same recoil as a 20ga. Plus you have aammo available.
I don't regret getting the Uplander as it will make a fine all around gun. You can bust Jacks or quail with it and it's just a nice handling shotgun! One of the best used guns I have bought yet.

You are using a light gun with slugs and heavy loads, yet you state you have issues with recoil and health????? See the contradiction?

I reload 12 and 20 with 3/4oz loads - kills birds of feathers or clays with regularity.

20 gauge is available on the net from a wide variety of sources

I'd have been better off with a 12 ga but since I already bought the gun...
It works out about the same and I guess you can't beat the system, if you want power, you pay.

ZVP, I have both the 12ga. as well as a 20ga, I reload for both therefore I can pretty much customize whatever shot I want. I have a Browning SXS 20ga in a English Sporter type stock very similar to a Stoeger, which you describe. I have severe arthritus in both my shoulders and have not had any problem mounting or shooting the 20ga. I use it for mostly quail; as far as finding ammo for it I haven't had any problems at all besides reloading, I get quite an assortment of ammo at WalMart.

I have to take umbrage to the statement that a BSS Sporter is very similar to a Stoeger. They both have 2 barrels, but that's about where the similarity ends.
Why do you want to shoot all those heavy loads thru your gun? Shoot the cheap light stuff and save the heavy stuff for the real deal, which I hope never comes.

Ammo supplies in all but the oddest calibers/gauges are pretty constricted in lots of places right now, due to the continuing buying frenzy. It's been that way since mid-December of last year.

All I can say is, keep looking, and be prepared for ... unexpected ... prices if you do find something in 20 ga. buck or slugs.

Spring Turkey season starts soon here in Tennessee. There is plenty of turkey shot available at our WalMart and Coop.

I'm seeing an oddity at the lower valley Academy in El Paso. Twenty gauge is pretty much missing from the shelf, but there are plenty of 12 ga. loadings available.

Now, the cheap skeet/field loads are out of stock for both, but the slightly more expensive loads are available for 12 ga. What I think is strange is that there's also less shelf space allotted for the 20 ga when Academy used to have a pretty darned good selection of it. The local Walmarts have been pretty well hammered for ANY ammo, so I can't use them as a reference.

Anyone else seeing a reduction in loadings for 20 ga at their local ammo suppliers?
