I'd really like to get a bolt action 22. I've been looking at the CZ455 and Sako Quad, both are advertising easy barrel swaps and the idea of switching from .22lr to 22WMR really intrigues me.

I'll be shooting mostly target but would like it to be good for hunting as well. I already have a Leupold Rimfire EFR 3-9x scope I'd like to use for it.

What do you guys think? Any recommendations?

CZ makes a good rifle. I have a 452, dunno about the 455 but it ought to be awesome as well (now, whether the 455 is available yet, I don't know).

If you do get the 455, I'd like a full, detailed review.

i really like my Marlin 981T. it's tube fed, 17 rounds, and shoots wonderfully especially for it's $189 price tag. mine wears a Cheap Bushnell 3-9x scope. i haven't shot it for groups in quite a while but i could get 3/4 inch 5 shot groups at 50 yards regularly with cheapy bulk ammo. Yellow Jackets would close it down to 1/2 inch or so. great value in a bolty .22.

This is one of the simplest and hardest questions to answer as there are so many variables and so many great shooting modern guns. My best suggestion is to go to multiple gun stores, you know you want to anyway, and try as many as you can. Don't be swayed by the salesman, but find the ones that suit you the best.

It seems you are willing to spend a chunk of change on a quality gun. If you go a couple hundred more than the 455 you can get a 64 action Anschutz and it will be a far better all around rifle, a couple hundred less and you are in the Savage and Marlin laminated stock range, not as nice as the CZ but are great shooters. For just over $500 the Ruger is a superb rifle.

Savage, Marlin, Ruger, CZ, Anschutz, Winchester, Remington, Weatherby, and a TON more all make great rifles for under $800. A far better selection than 30, 40, 50 years ago and all at a better price.

a couple years back i bought several 22lr bolts. a springfield from 30's was as accurate as the target barrelled ruger 77/22, a marlin 25 was more accurate than both of those, and my most accurate and now favorite 22lr was a $69 model 1969 trainer.

Remington 510, 511, or 512 series.

About the most accurate bolt .22's I have ever had the pleasure to shoot.

And they are still cheap too.

both of your choices are not only excellent for their accuracy, but will also be lifetime keeper type rifles- beautiful, well made, and will retain or increase in value. great for passing down, if you are in that position someday...
