I'll be ordering a complete Spike's Tactical .22lr upper with a free floated 16" Lothar Walther barrel. This will go on a dedicated lower and will be my only .22lr rifle. I already have a Leupold Rimfire EFR 3-9x scope with Larue q/d mount for it and will be getting a Primary Arms micro red dot to emulate the Aimpoint T1 on my 556 AR.

I shoot primarily at indoor ranges that are 25 yards max. Do you guys have any tips on what I can do with the 22 AR at these types of ranges to increase my skill level with rifle shooting?

Thanks

Shooting the .22LR conversion barrel will help you a lot with your trigger, especially if you have any problems with anticipation or accuracy when you shoot normal rifle rounds.

Make sure to clean your new barrel thoroughly prior to shooting it. I've gotten new barrels that have been pretty nasty.

I hope you can find a better place to shoot. A 25 yard range really limits your training ability.

Good luck bro,

TK

Sight alignment, trigger squeeze...

As posted above, 25 yards really limits what you can do. Depending on how good you're in with the owner, you can shoot low-light and/or multiple targets on slow days, but with absolutely no recoil... At least with a 9mm you get comparable recoil.

Find some ammo that your AR doesn't like (I recommend remington GBs...) to practice clearing malfunctions. I used to use a couple of USA Magazines for this back when .223 was dirt cheap.

If you have some outdoor property where you can shoot, throw a few cans on the berm. Try to keep one moving... I say a few cans because the one you're shooting at will eventually bounce off the berm. When I lived in the sticks I got really good at this, but I doubt I'm any good at it now that I live in civilization.

I shot this group with a Spikes upper, from a bag rest, using Wally Mart bulk Federal ammo. I would think the bbl upgrade would do much better.

Sorry, for some reason the .jpg didn't come up in this msg.

The ten shot group was under 2" at 50 yds

I recommend remington GBs...
Or it may surprise you. Try them all to see what your guns like, before taking internet folklore to heart. Yes, that is a half inch average for five consecutive five-shot groups at 50yds with Remington GB's.

I have tried it. Keep in mind that Spike's, CMMG, and Model 1 Sales .22lr conversions and uppers are all basically copies of Ceiner's 22 conversion.

Look in the rimfire/pistol cal section at arfcom. Its not internet folklore. Ceiner-based conversions don't like the GBs. Survey says: Federal Bulk is the best bang for the buck.

I've seen a few of your posts like this in a few days. Tell ya what, if you're ever on the other side of the state, drop me a line. I have three or four GB valuepacks I'll give you. My GSG5 doesn't hate them, but doesn't like them either. I shoot federals in it most of the time.

25m target that simulates silhouettes at various ranges:

There was a thread awhile back where someone posted a PDF for a 25m target that had silhouettes at 200 to 500m, so I just used MS Word, re-sized the silhouettes for 100 to 400m, and made up a scoring system.

I also worked up an Appleseed style 25m AQT, their silhouettes are sized a bit larger.

Targetz.com has a lot of printer paper sized targets also.

Just a couple ideas for next to free [you still have to pay for printer ink and paper] targets you can use at 25 meters.

I have CMMG's 22LR upper and it HATES Remington GBs, with a passion. Something like 1 out of every 5 - 10 would fail to feed or fail to fire. It loves Federal, Winchester, and Aguila bulk packs though. Just got the bolt hold open adapter yesterday and plan on taking it to the range later today.

I strongly disagree with 25 yards limiting one's training options. Very few people come even close to shooting to the potential of one's gun, yet still insist on trying to fix accuracy problems through equipment.

My suggestion is to buy a 100 pack of A-17 targets and shoot at 50 ft. Learn to shoot the accross the court positions, prone, sitting, and standing. Even if you just shoot off a bench, you should be able to shoot all 10s on A-17 targets. You can also shoot 3-5 shot groups on each bull. The groups should be one hole.
