I have a Ciener converter on a G19 frame and an Advantage Arms .22 converter on a G22 frame. (I prefer to have conversion units on their own dedicated frame but that isn't always possible)
To work reliably they need .22s that run HOT. At least 1230 fps. And in my experience plated bullets work better than lead. You also need to clean the guns about every 250 rounds and lube them with a light lube. Heavier lubes may retard the velocity of the slide as it reciprocates in the firing cycle, resulting in malfunctions.
CCI mini mags work really well (IIRC that's what Advantage Arms recommends for their products. I know Sig recommends Mini Mags for their conversion units)
I recently tried Augila High Velocity and Armscor Precision High Velocity (found both at Ammo Supply Warehouse) and they worked almost as good as the Mini Mags.
.22 ammo is still stupid expensive but I will (reluctantly) pay $45 or $50 a brick if it's high quality high velocity ammo. That's still about 50% of the price of quality 9mm and 40% of the price of .40 cal.
