Greetings,

now that i again own a 1911 pistol i am thinking of modifying my search for a .22 pistol to include the possibility of getting a conversion kit for the Springfield, instead of getting an additional firearm. b/c i just want something i can use for general practice that is cheaper to shoot and that will help through a reduction in recoil help me improve my actual skills at a faster rate.

what i would like to ask you folks for are, your oppinions experience etc witht eh various common conversion ou there, and also any links, and or price listings you know of.

thank you for your time.

As far as makers go, there's Marvel , Ciener, Kimber , EAA and Jarvis.

Marvel: has 2 models. Supposed to be the most accurate conversions. "Im looking at their Unit 2. They are a bit expensive tho.

Ciener: Probably one of teh more reasonable models. I had one, I wasn't too impressed with it, had a few problems that they wouldn't straighten out. ended up selling it.

Kimber: I don't know too much about these. They used to use renamed Cieners, but I think I heard that they are making their own now.

EAA: cheaper, similar to Ciener. I don't know much about these either.

Jarvis: Steel, will allow slide lock to function.

www.1911forum.com would be a good place to look for more info.

Hope it helps. :)

Check out the Marvel .22 Conversion Kits. Absolutely amazing accuracy, and very quality build. I've checked out the Ceiner kits, and they simply didn't look as well built as the Marvel Kits.

Browse around the 1911 forum classified sections for a deal. Thats what I did and seriously, I never had so much fun shooting .22's before. I guess its because its a gun that I'm very familiar with, the trigger, controls, and grip. Kinda get a great feeling shooting something differnet from a gun your so used to, mainly the big bang.

Anyways... my vote is the Marvels.

Stay away from the EAA kits. :uhoh:

I like the Ciener unit. I had troubles getting it to feed reliably and now exclusively use CCI ammo--no problems since then. I second the recommendation to browse the classified at the 1911 forum as well as taking a look at ebay.

I've got the Ciener and Marvel (with scope mount).

They both function 100% with all but the worst 22 ammo.

The Ciener is fine for low cost plinking.
Not pinpoint accurate but OK.

The Marvel is an expensive jewel.
Very accurate, even with cheap ammo.

I enjoy them both.

BUT unless you especially want the conversion for your 45, I'de get something like a Ruger 22/45 for about the same cost as the Ciener conversion.
