.22 LR advice

How about waiting for the appearance of 22 ammo before buying a 22 handgun. Now a nice 38 or 357 which is reloadable makes more sense to me right now. Think about it. Do not rule out 9 mm 40 S& W or 45 either.

Actually, it's out there. You just have to do a little looking for it. I've got a couple thousand rounds of .22LR left over from what I bought earlier this summer for my wife's .22LR rifle. I just stop by Dick's Friday mornings at opening time and check them out periodically, when I feel I may need more.

And I travel quite a bit between SC and VA, so I sometimes stop at several Walmarts along the way and find quite a bit of various kinds of ammo that way.

Considering it only takes a single purchase of a bulk pack to set oneself up for quite a bit of shooting, it's still well worth the investment.

I guess I agree with everyone else.
Best all 'round:
I think the Ruger single six is a great place to start. I guess I consider the Single Six convertible to be one of the most useful and essential firearms in my safe. You can do an awful lot with it.
For target and range:
From there I'd go with either a Ruger Mark II or III or Buckmark.
Plinking:
Finally I'd probably throw the Ruger SR22 and the S&W M&P 22 in the mix. They are the most reliable and both very easy to take down and clean.

Lot's of good choices mentioned. Mine would be my 17-8 s&w masterpiece k22. I don't know if it's the best, but it's my favorite.
