I'm looking at adding a rifle & handgun in .22 LR. What .22LR handgun should I get? I'm looking at the Ruger Mark III Hunter SS 67/8" barrel NIB $479. I'd also consider a S&W 617. Any & all suggestions are welcome. I have another thread in Rifles if you want to help me choose one too.:)

Thanks

I love my cz 452 with open sights and my browning buckmark pistol. The browning fits me better than a ruger.

Semi-Auto: Browning BuckMark 5.5" (Non Camper Model*)
Revo;ver: Smith & Wesson Model 17 or 18 (you wont be disappointed)

*FootNote: The Browning Buckmark Camper models have a plastic sight
base; and over time will crack; while other models have a metal sight
base, that will last forever~! :scrutiny: ;) :D

Here's another vote for the Browning Buckmark. I've had a bunch of .22 autoloaders from High Standard (Victor) to Walther (P22) to S&W (41) to Pardini to Ruger to...well, dozens, and the final "best overall" has been the target grade Buckmarks.

I'm with Ghost Tracker; have a bunch of fine .22 autos, including two Buckmarks. They're the best.

ETA: If you can find one, get an old Mossberg .22 bolt action; they're very accurate. The semiautos aren't bad, either.

I have a friend whose wife competes with a CZ 452 - very accurate.

I like my 617 6" Bbl. 10 shooter, but if I had a choice I would go
with the 4" Bbl. as it seems a bit muzzle heavy with the 6" Bbl. It has
the best out of the box DA trigger pull of any of my SMiths, maybe
because it's a K-frame.

I don't handgun hunt, but a couple of guys I know do. One uses a long-barrel (6-1/2")Single-Six, the other a long bull-barrel scoped MKII.

If you want a semi i would go for the buckmark or the ruger. If you are open for the revolver i once had an H&R 999 I am still kicking myslef for getting rid of that!

If I could find one, I'd get the Browning Buckmark Hunter or one of the UDX models. Rarer than hen's teeth, however.

For a rifle, look no further than the CZ 452 American or Lux.

First, Thanks to everyone.

Second,

It's looking like I'll be getting the Ruger MK III Hunter Stainless Fluted, Hi-Viz sights in 6 7/8".

I personally love my mark III Target Competition.
I would assume by your name that you own/shoot Glocks, I find that the normal Ruger 22s(non-22/45) have a similar grip angle to Glocks, if thats what you're looking for.

This is the gun I'm getting:

Yes I have a couple of Glocks. lOve them but I'm not hung up on grip angles. I shoot my 191's just as well as my Glocks.

So many great choices out there it's hard to go wrong if you are willing to buy quality (does not necessarily mean spending a lot of money).

My short list would be:

Pistols:
S&W 617 (by far my favorite .22 - K frame, 10 shot, 4" stainless)
Ruger MKxx or 22/45
Browning Buckmark

Long guns:
For precision work: CZ 452 or Ruger 77 series & a Jard trigger
For fun and plinking: Marlin 60
For fun and tinkering: 10/22

I plan to add a S&W 41 at some point, just waiting for the right deal.

If you get a Ruger be sure to check out the Tactical Solutions barrels. One of my MKII 22/45's is outfitted with a 3" bull barrel and it's the bees knees.

Have a look at Rimfire Central, it's a forum dedicated to the 10/22 and all other discussion of rimfires.

My own "everyday" 22 is a Ruger Mark III Target, and my bride's is a Ruger 22/45 Hunter.

Recently, though, I picked up a S&W 617 and we are both very much pleased with it.

Well made, nice balance, good trigger.....all around nice handgun.

It's a definite keeper.

Handgun: AMT Hardballer frame, built mostly out of take out parts (unknown lockwork, Ed Brown rebuild kit, Kimber gripsafety, Colt plastic MSH), topped off with a .22 conversion (I want an AA, but cant find any, so I may go with a used Ciener if I can find one, a Marvel if I cant - If I'm gonna buy a new conversoin, I'll get one that's worth the money).

Rifle: AR15 built with a Garrsison Mfg 9mm upper, KKF dissipator bbl, either a Ciener or Oly RFA bolt, BDM mags. Probably some kind of flip up BUIS and a GG&G QD scope mount, so I can ditch the scope and plink with the irons without losing zero.

I'll have enough invested in both to buy several, if not all of the guns mentioned in this thread. But I find .22 boring, so I want to at least have rimfire copies of what I shoot the most anyway.
