hello guys, i recently had an idea for a .22 caliber pinfire single shot pistol. i am aware that no manufacturer today produces a .22 pinfire cartridge due to the invention of modern cartridges and modern primers. i know that building one is probably the most unnecessary project i have come up with, however i would like to build my own pinfire gun for fun really. that and the fact that NOBODY at the firing range will have a .22 pinfire but me. what i will have shall be completely unique! now the ammunition is not exactly available at your local Wallmart in packs of 500, but i plan on making my own .22 pinfire out of spent casings loaded with 4F black powder. i know this is a completely strange idea and is not exactly the most practical or powerful firearm, however i would like to build one just for kicks. i already own a 2mm pinfire Berloque pistol, and i find the little thing to be rather cool. i find pinfire guns and ammunition to be a rather fascinating part of history, so i think building one would be a fun little project! i am thinking about making it break action just like my 2mm pinfire, however several action ideas are being considered.

i think that .32 would be too big for my tastes. i am planning to use it as a parlor pistol actually, however shooting .32s in my indoor firing range is kinda risky, i can hardly get away with a .22 cap n' ball, not to mention that my bullet trap probably could not stop one. but i think .22 should be just fine as a parlor load. besides, how many people do you know that can honestly say "I own a pinfire .22 and shoot it often" i would like to have a gun that is in a totally unique caliber, that would be really really, cool!

Busy,

That sounds like a really fun and very interesting project !!! Be sure to keep us posted with pics and vids of the build !!!

Best of Luck !!!

Sincerely,

44 Henry i plan on drilling a small hole in the case, putting a percussion cap into the case with the opening facing the hole, and inserting a small piece of hardened steel wire as the pin. i found a diagram online of how pinfire cartridges work. it seems simple enough! i also reload the 2mm pinfire cartridges for my berloque pistol, i basically fill the case with liquid priming compound and let it harden. i might do that with these if i cannot get the percussion cap idea to work. and of course David, i will post pictures! i am considering building a .22 falling block rifle with an exposed hammer, i might make it so i can fire .22 pinfire ammo out of it with a separate hammer that is specifically designed for pinfire use, however the gun will also be capable of firing standard .22 rimfire ammunition.
