my taurus holds 9 rounds, 4 inch barrel, $200. this will send pop cans tumbling at 75 yards. a cylinder is easier and faster to load than clips

WOW NICE OUTDOORSMAN! I HAVE A MODEL 35-1 Smith!

That's an extremely nice Outdoorsman! I have a S&W Model 35-1 J-Frame kit gun with 6" barrel in .22 L.R. It's basically a Model 34 with a 6" barrel. I had a set of Herrett Custom Zebrawood grips made for it.:D

HelloCCWMan
The Model 35 "I" Frame was the starting point of which the Outdoorsman was born, and made of the larger K-frame and later named the K-22 Masterpiece. I hope to add a nice model 35 someday myself. I have been told the larger K-frame was used to make certain the K-22 was the same size and heft of the Other Masterpiece series in larger caliber's,and this was why they made the larger frame change Regards, Hammerdown

HAMMERDOWN, Yes and....

Yes that's true. The model 35 started out as an "I" frame then they went to the J-Frame which was the -1 designation making it a Model 35-1. The K22 is also an excellent gun and I recommend the Colt Diamindback with 6" barrel in electroless nickel. I missed out on a couple of those and kick myself in the A**!! I do however also own a Colt Trooper MKIII .22 Magnum with 8" barrel in electroless nickel!

I wish i could figure out how to post/download pictures on this site. i like to take a picture with a digital camera and then post them of my Smith M35-1 and Colt Trooper MKIII.:D

I had passed up .22LR Smith & Wesson revolvers over the years in the $400 price bracket because I had no idea just how good they were. Then I found this one, a Model 17-3 for $199. I bought it. These revolvers are well worth the $400 tags they command. I never should have waited!

.22 revolvers

Looking for a .22 to start with & want bang for your buck? Try the Heritage Rough Rider Single Action Rimfire Revolver RR22MBS4

It shoots either the 22 LR / 22 WMR, comes with a 4 3/4" barrel, Wood Grip, Black Satin Finish, with a 6 Rd capacity. It's very accurate, durable and a fun gun to shoot. Excellent trail gun or target shooting All for the excellent price of $200

S&W Model 617

I hope the OP is not still looking...........(thread started June 3rd, 2006)

It's good timing for me, because I'm looking for a 22LR DA revolver for practice purposes. Does anyone have anything negative to say about the Smith and Wesson 617 ten-shot besides the price?

Thanks,
Les

I inherited a High Standard Longhorn. 22/22Mag with 9 1/2 inch barrel. Shoots fantastic and the odd thing is that this single action has a swing out cylender. Different, but shoots great.

I don't have a photo, but a S&W model 18, 4" is my choice-

Heavy for a .22, but very nice to shoot with the target trigger/hammer-

I know this is an old thread but oh well.....

The Heritage Rough Riders are ridiculously good value. I was blown away by the accuracy when I shot mine for the first time.

They are not made out of steel, but they make models that are. Basically, the frame is pot metal, and the barrels and cylinders are steel. Anyways, for $150 it is hard to go wrong.

If a Single Six is more accurate it would not make a difference for me because my RR is is accurate enough to hit squirrels at 25 yards. I have actually taken it hunting and killed tree rats. That was proof enough for me.

Wether it will stand the test of time is another question, but for now it is about the best deal going on a new handgun.

The only other brand new gun I have bought that competes in value is a Pietta 1851 Colt Confederate Navy Brass framed Black Powder revolver from Cabelas.... purchased in 2010 for less than $100.

Bottom line is if you are looking for a cheap, accurate, 22Lr/ 22MWR single action revolver, the Rough Rider is an insane deal. It also kind of has this "old feel" to it. Because it is not pristine out of the box it almost whispers to you that it was made in another time.... maybe forged over a campfire by druken idiots, but that is ok because it costs less than a month of marriage counseling and feels better to boot

22

I recently aquired a 22 Colt Frontier with both cylinders in very nice condition. Don't have photos to view. This is a good little shooter too.

Of all the .22s I own, my absolute favorite is the Ruger Bearcat. In fact, I've got five of them now, including two originals and a 50th anniversary model. My first gun ever was a Bearcat; I still take it to the range from time to time and enjoy its accuracy and dependability as much today as I did when I got it in the early 1960s.

I have four .22 revolvers.

Two ruger sp-101's and two Taurus 94's.

The taurus's are great guns for the money and the 4" is always the one I grab for running the farm out here.

have a S&W K22 with a second cylinder in 22 mag. Big for a 22 but a great shooter.

Heritage 22/22mag

I really love my Heritage 22/22mag. It is absolutely a fun pistol to shoot.

I think every one should have one. A good 22 revolver and a good semi auto or bolt action 22 rifle will feed you and protect you.

I love my K22. Handed down to me from my grandfather. This thing will reach out and touch something, anything!

Also have 351PD the wife carries.

I'd rather have a 22 than nothing at all!
