We've had a thread on .32 Wheelgun CCW, most agreed .32 H&R Magnum and some others were adequate .

Now, who will admit to .22 RF CCW (revolver or auto) ?

Personally, I'd rather carry my lightweight High Standard Sentinel 9 shot, 4'' than my H&R .32 S&W (short) 5 shot, 3''.

What do you carry, and any comments ?:)

I sometimes carry a S&W 317 Airlite 8-shot .22 with CT laser grips on it.

All up weight is about 11 oz loaded.

You bet!

CCI mini-mags are about two gal water jugs good for penetration.

A few of them, or even one in your eye socket or two in your chest would for sure ruin your day!

And it wouldn't be that big a trick to do it with the laser grips.

Certainly. While a rimfire wouldn't be my first choice for going into combat I have always felt well armed with a good .22 handgun. -with one exception-I have never felt well armed with a NAA mini revolver. Armed yes, but the accuracy and handling never allowed me to feel 'well armed' with firearms "jewelry".

Not regularly, because I have other options that are even smaller (like the P32 we're discussing on another thread.) :)

But, I do sometimes grab the Taurus PT-22 from its high perch and drop it in a pocket for neighborhood walks if, for some reason, I don't have my PF9 already on. I don't feel insecure with it. It's loaded with CCI MiniMag solids.

I wouldn't feel all that much undergunned if I occasionally carried my Beretta Model 70S in .22LR.

My Ruger LCR is my usual carry now, loaded with 38sp in a IWB or OWB holster. I have a Ruger LCR in 22lr also, and I slip it in my pocket as a backup of the big brother LCR often

If looking for a cheap, low-recoil CCW solution, you could do a lot worse than an H&R/NEF Model 922 (9-shot .22LR) revolver. Just keep pulling the trigger until the bad guy stops moving towards you.

I have an Iver Johnson Cadet 55-S in 22LR that sees occasional carry duty, usually when I'm stepping out real quick and just want something I can stick in my pocket.

Maybe not the best carry choice, but I figure 8 rounds of 22LR is much better than nothing at all.

I sometimes carry a S&W 2214, it has never misfired with CCI mini mags. I have ran over 500rnds through this pistol with this ammo.
I have a S&W 422 in a 4" it also is as reliable with good ammo, 9 or 11 rounds on target in a few seconds, "priceless"

I wouldn't consider carrying a .22 semi auto for self defense. Rimfire ammo can be unreliable. A revolver would be a better choice.

Rimfire in a revolver, yes. In semi-auto, no.

I actually had a misfire with CCI Mini-Mag this week. Tried it again, and it still misfired.
And I consider CCI Mini-Mag to be the best commercial ammo out there in .22LR.

With a revolver, no tap-rack drill is necessary. Just pull the trigger again and go for round two!

Nope nope nope nope

Carry what you like, but I prefer a bigger hole. However, given no other option or a need for a very small gun, yeah ok.

It's still a deadly weapon, and I sure wouldn't stand in front of one.

I've got many NAA's. Around the house, or the shop at work, I'll OC my NAA .22LR in the old style folding holster. Sometimes you'll see it on my belt at Home Depot too.

Other times, I'll have a NAA in .22 magnum on me. Generally a Wasp type model, with the rubber grips.

Most times I'll have my LCR9 with me, along with a couple extra moon clips.

After a storm it'll be a brace of 1911's on me, and an AR.

I always feel under gunned with a pistol. I'd much prefer a shotgun or a carbine.

Long ago I'd pocket my Beretta Bobcat. It proved too unreliable and I moved up to .32ACP as a minimum.

However, I would consider an 8 shot snubby revolver in .22 Magnum sometime in the future.

I brought a Taurus M-941 22 Magnum for my wife which she doesn’t like. So after she got a Colt 38 revolver I started shooting the Taurus to decide if I wanted to keep it or sell it. After discovering it’s accuracy with Speer Gold Dots I found I really like it and decided to keep it. It is very handy in the summer.

I like to compare the 22 Magnum from a handgun to Wasp stings.

For most of us one Wasp sting is a painful attention getter. Generally it is not lethal but for some people like my Dad a single sting can be lethal unless they get proper medical treatment / medicine within a short time period.

Now consider getting attack by a swarm of angry Wasps. Now even the average person is facing a life threatening danger. Multiple Wasp stings can and do kill adults.

One round of 22 Magnum is certainly a attention getter. Placed in the right area it is lethal. The shooter can significantly increase the chances of killing the intended target by firing multiple rounds (swarm of angry Wasps). With the Taurus that is eight rounds of angry Wasps.

It is generally more than adequate here on the farm but I have no illusions about why all eight rounds from my little Taurus may be needed for self-defense against a larger attacker.

If I were recoil sensitive I wouldn't feel bad carrying a Kel Tec PMR-30. It has a full size frame and full size weight when fully loaded but 30 rounds of anything is a bad deal for someone. My father used it for a couple of years as a HD gun because of the lack of recoil. Would it be my first choice? No, but it is definitely worth a look if recoil is an issue.
I don't have a 22 semi that I would want to carry regularly. The Buckmark is reliable as is the Ruger but they are full size guns with 10 rounds of 22 LR. Once again, if recoil is THE issue then a 22, LR or WSM, is a great choice.

22 mag is a particularly nasty little round that has never really "gotten it's due" in the CC world. Not heavy, but excellent penetration, easy to carry, and really really LOUD!

My NAA Black Widow is in it's holster in my pocket any time I have pants on.

For reasons not important at this time, I once was carrying an Astra Cub in .22 Short. A friend asked what I would do if I had to use it. I replied that the gun was pretty accurate and that I would shoot the bad guy twice, right above the eyes. My friend asked why I chose those two spots, if there would be good penetration. I replied, no, but the blood would run down into his eyes and blind him, whereupon I would throw the worthless little pistol at him and run like heck.
