My kids are too young to shoot (one is 2 and one will born in August). But when they are old enough to shoot I'll use the same rifle I use in marksmanship training - Walther G22.
Stock is adjustable by 2 spacers - 10 mm and 20 mm, weight distribution on base model is such that the CG is over the pistol grip, making it easy to hold and shoot. Length is about 70cm, of which the barrel is 20 inch - 508 mm. It's a bullpup, so you can't switch shoulders on the run (you can switch it to southpaw, but takes a little effort), unless you like the charging handle between your teeth and casings in the eyes.
Semi-automatic rifle with bolt held back after the last shot, it's accurate (1 moa). Several weaver rails. I scoped it and put on a bipod (since making the pic I turned the bipod legs around, so the whole deal sits more forward). Bipod does make it nose heavy, so I use it only when I need to, otherwise the bipod sits in the bag.
If somebody wants pics of this rifle, in details (like internal works or so), I have made plenty of these when I disassembled the rifle for full cleaning.
It may not be as classic as wood/steel bolt action, but it gets the job done.
Prize? Beats me, since here they are more expensive, the whole deal is around 800$ here, and considered not that expensive. in US, maybe half of it?
