I am not familiar with the .22WRF calibre. What is the difference between it and the .22 Magnum? Also, is the .22 WRF still commercially available? Thanks..John Wesley Hardin
The 22 WRF looks like a shorter version of the 22 Win Mag. It powers a 45 grain .224 diameter bullet to 1300 FPS. The 22 Win Mag is basically a lengthen 22 WRF case. Doesn't sound like much these days but keep in mind it came out before the High velocity 22 Long rifle load.
In the guns that will feed it you can fire a 22 WRF in a 22 Win Mag. as the case diameter and bullet diameter is the same. Sort of like firing a 38 special in a 357 Mag.
Both CCI and Winchester make a run of it every once in awhile. I shoot them out of bolt action 22 mags every so often for kicks but because of the bullet jump accuracy is not the greatest.
Something I learned while looking for ammo for a Remington model 12 is that .22Rem. special is the same thing as .22WRF(Winchester Rim Fire). When Remington made the model 12 I guess they couldn't have one of their rifles shoot anything that said Winchester, so they renamed the cartridge .22rem. special.
