Are there any .22's I should be looking at other than the Walther P22 and Sig Mosquito? The P22 doesn't fit my hand comfortably (I can deal with it, but prefer not to invest money in something I can just deal with) and I've heard of reliability/quality issues with the Mosquitos (apparently Sig doesn't make them themselves?)
I'd prefer to stay in a $300-$350 price range.

In addition to 308c's fine recommendation the S&W 22A series are fairly decent pistols too and in your price range.

i have had a ruger mark 2, it was a great little gun. very reliable, fairly accurate. the only thing to remember is NOT to put your left thumb on top of your right hand. you will only do that once. i currently own a walther p22. i like it better, except the safety works quite hard. i did not like the smith and wesson 22 auto. i liked the looks of it, but it felt cheap when i was opperating it. the taurus 22 auto's are just way to small. good for a pocket gun, but not enough power to mess with. good luck with your search.

Ruger MK II & Browning Buckmark are my 2 favorites but some Guys I shoot with have the fancy S&W or the Colt .22 that dont shoot any better than mine.
I think the grip has alot to do with it so you may want to buy a conversion kit for the one you already own.

22A, Ruger MKII/III and Browning Buck Mark are all excellent .22 semiautos. The P22 is ok, it sort of grows on you, but it is a notch below the others in quality and my ability to shoot accurately. The folks who have the Neos seem to like them.

The best one is the one that fits your needs and wants and feels best.

Ruger MKIII Hunter
Ruger MKIII 22/45
Ruger MKII GC
22A (5.5" and 7" barrel)
Ruger Single Six
Buck Mark Standard
P22

My favorite. Usually the one I'm shooting at the time.

Yes - any and every other .22. These are the two biggest pigs being made...

Huh? Why would anyone do that anyway?

I always forget about the Buck Mark. Anybody have experience with both the Buck Mark and the Ruger Mark III, for target shooting? I'm interested in the longer, bull barrels in particular. (I ♥ a long sight radius.)

S & W 22a-1

I picked up the S&W 22A a couple of weeks ago, lots of fun to shoot, very reliable & accurate. Excellent value. I've run 7 kinds & brands of ammo through it & it works like a champ. Can't say enough good things about it! NRA PATRON LIFE MEMBER

Do not buy a Mosquito. What a piece of .... I had a cap gun that had a better trigger.
I just bought a Brown Buckmark last sat. Very reliable/accurate and easy to disassemble/clean. Also a few after market parts if you want to expand. You will enjoy the Browning and the prices are not bad.

Uh Yeah

As others have said, you probably picked the two pistols you shouldn't be looking at. Both are plastic and pot metal lumps of crap turned out by otherwise reputable manufacturers presumably to cash in on their names. I know I am being harsh, but that's truly what I think.

My personal favorites
Ruger Mk II Target Model (MKIII even)
S&W 41
CZ Kadet (you can get this as a whole pistol. Superb pistols. All steel!)

The Ruger Mk II is probably the only one I listed that fits in you price range. I picked up one for <$300 used. It'll do <1" 10 shot groups at 25 yards. My Kadet's best was about 1.5" 10 shots at 25 yards with irons (the MKII had a red dot on it).

Personally, I would save up my pennies and get something truly nice. The P22/Mosquito are more or less disposable. A Model41 or a MKII would be something your grand kids will be shooting.

Do you eat out? Don't eat out for a few months, and buy yourself something nice.

Even though they have their fans, it's darn difficult to recommend the pot-metal-made P22 or the Sig Mosquito. Check a variety of threads on this Forum for feedback on both before you make a purchase. You also should check the Rimfire Central Forum before considering either the Walther or the Sig. Here's a link:

As others have said, the P22 and Mosquito are the two WORST .22 autos on the market right now. You will be far, FAR happier with a Ruger or a Browning.

I have owned a Browning Buckmark, both in the 5 1/2" bull barrel and the 10" barrelled silhouette model. Lved them both, but sold one and traded the other for other guns. I know plink with a Ruger MK III Target and it is a phenomonal shooter. Take your pick.

I bought the Buck Mark in Jan 08, really like it and it shoots cheap ammo!!
