.222 rem

It is Very unlikely you will find a .222 Rem with fast enough rifling twist to handle any bullets heavier then 55 grain spire-point or 63 grain semi-pointed.

Most all of them came from the factory with 1-14" twist rifling .

They for sure won't handle 69 grain bullets unless somebody re-barreled it with a faster twist barrel.

What is the twist rate on the barrel would be my first exploration if fast enough to stabilize go for it.

RC was faster on the draw as usual and spot on as well.

rcmodel has it.

The other question is, if you re-barreled to a faster twist, could the smaller case capacity work with 69 Gr bullets.

Anyone been reloading any of this? Curious if anyone has attempted to load 69 gns in these
My load uses Speer 70 gr. Semi Spitzers over a compressed load of Winchester 760 out of a 1:12 twist barrel. Accuracy at 100 yards is sub MOA and the load has proved deadly on deer, raccoons, rabbits and groundhogs.

My .222 was 1 in 14.

Sounds like it can be done with 1 in 12, as posted by Grumulkin, who has a lot of experience with rifle reloading.

Not sure of the barrel twist. Had some laying around for another gun in .22-250. The gun is a vixen if anyone can educate me more about it.

Not sure of the barrel twist.
Test it with a rod, tight patch, and tape measure.
I've had good results loading a 700 .222 with H 322- 50 gr Hornadys & 52 gr Sierras.
EDIT:
I've not tried any bullets heavier than 55 gr in it, as I believe if I need a longer .224 bullet than 55 grains, I need a longer case than .222 Rem to "stick" it in.

Thanks for the info. I've never tried anything larger than a 55 either, just had dome laying around for my uncles gun and was half tempted to load some

Here's a part of a pdf file which shows twist rates for different calibers. I've listed the rifles in .222 Rem. It's possible that it's 1in16", but it's likely a 1in14". 222 Rem works quite well with 50gr weights, but most heavy bullets will not stabilize.
