.223 CZ 527; How many feet per second

Hello,

I just found a great load that works real well in my CZ 527 Varmint 1/9 twist .223. Does anyone know how fast this is at the barrel. I don't have any way to measure it other than a guestimate.

LC Brass
55 Nosler Ballistic Tip
26.5 Gr Varget
Fed Gold Match

Just wondering if anyone has used this formula and know what it will shoot.

The CZ in cz223 stands for Chris Zahn, my name. You are not the first, nor will you be the last, to make that assumption. I couldn't tell you anything about your load other than to say the loading manuals should give you a prety good idea.

A chronograph is a very helpful tool to let you know how your loads, and your rifle, are doing on a particular day. You can buy one for about a hundred dollars US.

I know that this isn't an answer to your question, but without a chronograph, nobody knows the answer.

Thanks for the information guys. I just thought that since it was a pretty popular load that i could save the $100. I don't think i would use the chronograph much in the future.

I am going to stick with this load.

I don't know where you're located but you might try the local gun club, etc. I know that one or two clubs I've been a member of in the past had a "club" chronograph. FWIW.

a spot of advice here; If this load shoots well and is accurate in your rifle just stick with it. If you chrono it and get disappointed you will add to it and lose out on accuracy.

the pursuit of fps is not the be all and end all.

Steve; I sure plan on it. I've loaded up 150 of these and and will do another 350 to be ready for spring varmints. Just trying to make a trajectory chart for the long shots.

Dave; I'll ask the club, or maybe just ask one of the guys that is set up out there. I would think that might get old for them though.

I get 3200fps with 26.5 Varget and a 40gr Vmax..

Sorry, no chrono data here either. However, I found 26.5 of varget to be the sweetspot load for my .223 Ruger HB/Stainless also. We were using 55 grain speer pills.

I'm with the "Don't worry about it!" crowd.

If it is accurate in your rifle, and you learn the drop at various ranges, it will do perfectly fine, no matter what the velocity is.

Around 3170 fps according to the Hodgen website.
