Greetings,

I used the RCBS swagger to remove the primer crimp on some of my PMC brass. To my surprise, when I tried to insert the primers in the pockets, It was so tight that a)some primers went in but they were squeeze so much that they were flat and flush to the bottom of the case or b) it shaved brass on the side of the primer and they did not go in at all with "too much" force applied to them for my safety sake.

I solved the issue by using a primer pocket tool that removes the crimp by removing material instead of swagging the primer pocket.

Did I do something wrong with my swagging or is it normal for the primers to be tight like that? I used CCI 400, CCI 41 and Wolf 223.

Thank you

I've not had the problem when swaging with the RCBS tool. You might try a few other types of brass - I've had a batch of PMC with off-center flash holes with which I managed to break 2 Lee 'unbreakable' decap pins. Your problem could be the batch of brass being a little out of spec.

Heres a couple of ideas.

1. Use case lube on the primer pockets.

2. I stoned about .004" off the end of the Sm. swaging punch on mine to get the radius section of the punch just a frog-hair deeper in the primer pocket. Made a big difference in the end result. For some reason I didn't need to do it on the LG punch.
