Has anyone had a problem with .223 once fired brass having to be swagged? I reloaded 50 today and 3 or 4 of that number were very difficult to seat a primer that I ended up swagging them and then they seated fine. All of my 5.56 military brass has to be swagged but I've never had to swag .223 before. The .223 brass was Winchester.

Swage. Not swag. Many military primers are crimped and need to be either reamed or swaged out to accept the standard primers. I use the original Lyman primer pocket reamer I've had since the fifties. Still works fine.

Some commercial .223 is crimped I had some Hornandy ammo that was and have been reading a few posts that seem to confirm this.

I saw a guy wanting some big swag to swage primer pockets in an add?
But yes, military brass, and a lot of commercial .223, 9mm, and .45 ACP anymore have crimped primer pockets.
And you cannot reload them properly without swaging or reaming the primer pockets first.

Crushing primers in kicking & screaming all the way is not a good thing to do.
It is also unsafe in semi-auto rifles with floating firing pins, like AR-15 or AK/SEGA type .223 rifles.
