I have a Remington 700 ADL in .223 22" barrel. I emailed remington my S# and they reported back that I have a 1/12 twist rate. I would like to use the Sierra Match King bullets and the Sierra Varmint Express bullets.

Anyone care to recommend the weight bullet I should start out with using my twist rate?

I will be reloading so any other recomendations on this combination will gladly be accepted.

The 1 in 12 twist was instituted to stablize the military 55 grain service bullet. You might go with Sierra's 52 grain HPBT or their 53 grain HP and see how they do.

Anywhere under 60 grains.

Hornady V-Max and Nosler Ballistic-Tip are also a very hard varmint bullets to beat for accuracy.

52 gr boattail Sierra MatchKing.

They nearly always shoot well and will give you a basis for comparison with other brands you might want to try.

I also have a 1 in 12" .223. A 26" 700 SPS Varmint in a HS stock. With the above mentioned 52 Sierra MatchKing the accuracy has been very impressive to say the least. I also have some 53 Sierra MatchKings to try. The best results with H335 powder and pretty good with Benchmark.

I would suggest something under 60 grs also. The bullet length has more effect than weight . Heavier bullets are generally longer so most use the weight in calculating twist. Google Greenhill Formula for Twist, there is a lot of good information in there.

My Fireball is a 1:12 twist and I get super results shooting a 40 grain Sierra BlitzKing and Nosler Ballistic Tips.
