Folks,
Anyone loading for .224 Valkyrie? Also looking for a good bolt action .224 Valkyrie bolt action rifle. It doesnt seem like many people are making them at this point.
Dom

I've got one in an AR is very accurate with the 75 FMJ factory stuff. It's even better with my 60 grain NBT's and 75 ELD's. Haven't loaded for velocity yet, but it's been very very accurate

I have one in a custom ar15... Working with a few different powders... my best load for accuracy is a little warm for pressure, but it shoots amazing... I'm getting 2880fps with an 80gr eld

I am looking for a bolt gun.So far I only see Mossberg makes one (not sure if I would go with a mossberg, and Masterpiece arms which I am sure is amazing but is like a $2800.00 rifle. I was hoping to see Savage or Ruger or someone more affordable make one in a chassis system for under $1500.00 I am going to wait a little while and see what comes out. I am still working on my .308 win, I am hearing good things about .224 Valkyrie and seems like good ballistics and very low recoil.

Ive been kicking around building one on a Rem 700, using a DBM that accepts AR mags, probably a Remage conversion. I need to find a suitable donor. I want to see more data before I make the jump though.

To quote myself, Im looking for a rifle, but the hangup is finding the correct bolt face. Its not the same bolt face as a 6.8, 308, or 6.5 Grendel. I could build from a Savage action as well, as bolt faces are easy to change, but I cant use a DBM that accepts AR mags in a Savage, and I dont feel like over paying for Savage mags. Been there, done that with my 308. So, first I have to find a short action Rem 700 that I can convert to DBM. Then I need to find a bolt with the correct bolt face. Then lastly, find a 26" barrel cut in 224 Valk, probably a Criterion as Ive had pretty good luck with them and the price is right. This rifle would be built primarily for small game hunting and longer range shooting. Top it off with a decent 6-24 power scope.

Why not an AR? Because I will never get the accuracy and velocity from an AR that I can get from a bolt rifle. I also will never shoot and load enough volume in 224 Valk to justify a semi auto primarily due to cost. I can go blast match grade 223 all day for 25 cents a shot, which is something you will never do with 224 Valk. I also have a feeling that 224 Valk is going to be hard on barrels due to the higher velocity of the round on such a small diameter projectile. Im not talking 22-250 hard on barrels, but its pretty safe to say that barrel life will not be the high point of the caliber. The jury is still out for me on this caliber. I have a few other projects in the works that will need to be finished before I go anywhere with this.

To correct you it is absolutely the same as a 6.8 SPC bolt face
This is one reason I'm inclined to find out how hard it would be to form Valk brass from .22 nosler. Shouldn't be too difficult. There are more .223 faced bolts than 6.8, so if you built on that concept options are more easily available. If the supplies of nosler brass run out then having the bolt opened up and a sako extractor installed wouldn't be much of an added expenses.
This is probably exactly what I'm going to do with mine, except I'll use the .22 nosler as Ive go a full 2.8" of space to play with.

My experience with the 22 Nosler brass is that in my AR with full pressure loads the brass just doesn't hold up. To keep from wrecking brass I was barely able to get above 5.56 velocity. In a bolt gun that may not be an issue and apparently Nosler has fixed many of the brass issues

I am with you I dont want a semi-auto, Is started shooting rifle with AR's to be honest I am more interested in accuracy than speed and actually enjoy shooting my bolt action rifles way more. I am going to wait a few months and see what gets produced for the mass market as Im not interested in dropping close to 3k for a MPA.
Thanks,
Dom

You can get great accuracy with an ar, not just speed... mine is running half moa or less out to 700yds...
