I wanting an AK in .22lr and I need some help.

I'm thinking of buying a WASR22 and taking out the wood stock set and switching it with an east german one. Do you think this would work? Has anyone had any experience doing something like this? Also, does anyone know where to get mags for this rifle? I don't personally like the plastic mags and I've heard you could get metal 10 or 15 round magazines but I can't find them anywhere.

The other option is to just purchase a WASR10 and get a Ciener conversion kit, just has a funny looking magazine. I don't like the Armscor and I haven't found too many other options. I really really wish the MPi-69 trainer wasn't banned.

Any advice?

I know this thread's old, but since noone's responded...

Someone on calguns.net said that since the WASR22 never had high cap magazines made for it, it's "sporting" and thus 922 doesn't apply to this. I also believe that it doesn't have a problem with the parts count either since it doesn't have the piston, etc. As such, I've removed that ugly thumbhole stock and put on a regular Romanian one. You'll just need a stock for a "Stamped" receiver.

Southern Ohio Gun sells the metal magazines for $20.

Here's mine from an outing yesterday.
