I carried a .25 Betetta Jetfire as an off duty for about 10 months way back in 1991-92.

One day my ex wife and I were getting on the freeway when I saw a solo County Marshall on a one-man felony car stop (Deputy Marshal behind his car door gun drawn, solo bad guy in driver seat of stopped vehicle with hands up.) I stopped my pickup, buzzed the deputy with my flat badge, drew the Jetfire, then I took the position on the opposite door. Ultimately the 6’2” parolee was called out of the stolen car and I cuffed while the deputy covered.

This guy still had his prison buff on, and the Marshal said the mope was doing his best to bait him in until the “second unit” arrived (me and the pea shooter.)

I realized then and there the .25 would’ve been pretty much useless unless I pressed it into this guys eye socket and fired multiple shots. He wasn’t Terminator sized, but it was clear he’d spent the last several years working out for hours every day in the yard.

I drove to a nearby gun store within the week and left with a .40 caliber S&W 4013 and three magazines. The Jetfire was relegated to the lock box (Which was stolen by a housekeeper about three years later.)

There are too many better options than a .22 or .25 if you’re not physically limited to one of these due to age or infirmity.

Stay safe.

Wanna buy it??

Me and rimfire...I snatch them up, but...I’m picking up a Mk IV complete upper tomorrow from my FFL and then shopping hard to find a complete hunter. If it weren’t for that and another 1911 I’ve got an eye on...

I have a soft spot for mouse guns and have a few, more because they’re pretty than because they make the best carry gun ever.

I’d be very interested in a repetition of the test of the OP from, say, a 2” barrel .22, or even a 1.25” (like the little NAA mini revolvers.) It’s my understanding that .25 may equal or exceed penetration of the 22, when barrel lengths are very short.

That said, neither of them makes a great carry gun, but all of them are a darn sight better than a sharp stick, if you find yourself needing a firearm and one happens to be in your pocket. Don’t sell them short if the question comes down to having a gun vs not having a gun. But if you have a choice of guns, best choose something practically as small, but in a bigger caliber. For the record, I have small hands, and yet the Browning Baby is so small, I can’t grip and access the controls well enough to shoot it well. I’d much rather put a few mags through an LCP.

I'll try to find a shorter 22lr. I also secured some kevlar and uhmwpe commercially produced armor plates, hard and soft, for more curiosity fulfillment.

I spy, with my little eye, an L.W. Seecamp, second from right on the bottom. That is my preferred EDC in the Summertime, when even while wearing something as light as gym shorts will hold that up. I got mine circa 1982, my buddy has the consecutive serial number. We got them at the same time. Both in .32, sporting Winchester Silver Tips, the round the gun was actually designed around, and the only recommended cartridge by the Mfg.
I have an 84 vintage Seecamp. Speer GoldDot feeds and functions perfectly in mine, as well as Magtech hollow points. Of course, they weren't around when the Seecamp was developed.

So, with a pulse rate up around 120 and your brain saying "Oh, ****!," you nail the critical zone below first time, every time? View attachment 1032920
I expect to, yes. I've worked with handguns for a long time. And I've been in a number of high pressure situations.
No doubt my pulse rate will be elevated, but my brain will be saying, "Front sight! Full trigger press!" And I carry a heavy loaded .38 Special as the smallest of my defensive arms.

I have come to terms with my mortality long ago.

A friend of mine carries a Keltec PMR30 in 22WMR. It is a lightweight option with a lot of firepower. He loves it. My personal minimum is a 380acp. I have toyed with the idea of a 32acp but still find it a little light. I prefer energy to capacity in lightweight options that are conceal-able.

My carry gun is Beretta M71 in .22 LR.
Why?
Few reassons. Biggest would be that i dont have more comfortable gun to carry and second that im not that good with my 9mm Beretta APX and cant imagine it would be better with some carry version 9mm.
I do not recommend .22 LR for EDC gun and i do not think its better choice thank 9mm but for my current level of skill and current risk level in my location, i find it as more wise choice for me. Also im able to dump all mag into torso target at 10 meters, ammo costs third of 9mm FMJ (which is factor for training) and i dont have to worry about overpenetration
Ofcourse I aim at replacing it with 9mm at somepoint

But dont get carry away just with stopping power of one bullet...
