I hit the lottery a few days ago. Wallmart had 100r boxes of mini-mags for $7.47 and Thunderbolt 50r boxes for $5.45 a box!?? I got my three boxes of mini-mag and am happy. But why the heck were cruddy Thunderbolts more expensive than mini-mags? Have I crossed over into a parallel universe? Is this a Wall-mart or Remmy thing? Maybe the price sticker was wrong? I checked it twice though.

Definitely sounds like you slipped over into the Bizzaro World at that Walmart. I can't even remember when was the last time I saw any .22 ammo there, let alone Thunderbolts selling for more than MiniMags.

I've checked three Walmarts within a radius of about 40 miles of my place and haven't seen .22LR in a very long time. . . probably before Dec 2012. I don't make a special trip, but stop by to see what they have when I'm close by.
One small local retailer had a little bit of CCI 22LR round nose and they wanted the equivalent of $75/brick. - No thanks. - In addition, they wouldn't sell you any more than three 100 rd boxes at a time.

Yeah it was an amazing thing to see .22lr in stock! It's the first time in more than a year I've been able to buy some. I'm still weirded out by how much they wanted for thunderbolt though.
I do think that by next fall the shortage will be over. Also do note I did not take friends back there and clean the place out. I only bought what I needed. You know if people would just stop paying "STUPID" amounts of money for .22lr online the shortage would be over in a couple of weeks.

Congrats on being able to buy three boxes. The Walmart in Sumter, SC told us earlier this week that the District Manager said they were to limit 9mm and .22 purchases to one box per person per day and you had to sign a list when you bought. No meniton of showing ID. No .22 has shown up since this news was delivered. Some 9mm showed up but I didn't see anyone buying so I can't verify if the policy was implemented.

As for me signing a list, let me introduce myself, my name is Phan, Peter Phan. :neener:

Thunderbolt isn't worth buying at any price.

$0.075 per round of .22lr is no bargain as 9mm hard cast lead can be relaoded for about the same cost.

Whatever the virtues of .22lr, shooting 9mm is better practice when the costs are comparable.

Finaly ran across a few boxes of .22LR at the local Walmart. I think they had 6 boxes . The price was $5.17 per box. It was the only .22 rimfire ammo they had.
I did not buy any.

Just to give you an idea of where I stand the last .22 LR I purchased were at $9.99 a brick of 500. The purchase prior to that was $7.77 a brick of 500 (white box Winchester)

I don't shoot much any more but always kept a good ammo stockage and have a few thousand rounds of .22LR as well as some shorts and longs amounting to about another 1,000 rounds. I have enough for a few years at present rate of shooting but admitt I would likely shoot more if the prices were back down in the $25 a brick range.

Pretty soon people will have to wait for two rabbits to line up before you shoot.

PS: back to Walamart today they were sold out on the Thunderbolts but had CCI Stingers at $6.47 a box of 50 .
