More Reasonably Priced .22 Ammo

At Academy Sports today, I paid a little over $.04 per rd. for two boxes of Federal American Eagle LR HP (2 box limit - total of 100 rds.).

Also, since I purchased a firearm ( .22 Heritage Rough Rider - 6 1/2"), I was allowed to buy additional Federal Value Pack of 525 rds., at approximately the same price.

Looks like .22 ammo is becoming more available and at a reasonable price.:)

The Rough Rider was just under $200.00, before taxes and background check, with the option of purchasing the .22 Magnum cylinder for about $30.00.:D

As long as demand outruns supply prices will stay to high. Stores are in business to make a profit off of fools demanding the same as others. I checked around over memorial weekend since hearing of the shortage. By golly it is for real. Went shooting my centerfires, I reload those. Not bothered by fools and their money parting ways.

I went to Academy a few days ago and they had the CCI mini-mags for $6.99 box of 50. The previous day I had bought the 100 count pack for $7.99. Asked them how that it could be and they just said following orders. But if I wanted to wait a couple of days they would have the 100 count pack in stock for $7.99. Took my wife and brother in-law and two nephews and bought the cci for $7.99.

Bravo, for your signature. Besides shooting, I like fishing! ><>

Acceptable Price for .22 Ammo

Right now, I don't plan to buy any .22 unless it is between $.04 and $.05. Between $.06 and $.08, maybe yes, maybe no. Taxes not included, but don't want to pay any S&H charges though.

"Well, you'll be waiting a long time.", you may say.

Locally, I paid a little over $.04 recently at Academy Sports. See my previous posting #626.

For a long time, I was a "naysayer", but now I think it's going down. We'll see. Otherwise, I can wait.

Oh, by the way, I sent off for the Rough Rider .22 mag. cyl. today, by snail mail, since the web way was (www) messed up.

They are making 50 ct boxes of Minimags again? I happened across a couple of bricks right before the shortage (at $13 bucks a brick :) ) and called CCI, as I had never seen it packaged like this. After giving the lot number, I was informed it was mid 80's production. FWIW, it shot just as accurately and reliably as any other Minimag ammo I have bought over the years......just found the packaging a bit odd.

Picked up 150rds of Federal Lightning 40gr RN for $8 at th local Wal-Mart day before yesterday. First time I've gotten .22 from there since Christmas when I nabbed 1500rds of Remington golden bullets for $88.

Picked up two bricks of CCI Standard Velocity from our local "no gouging" gun shop last week for $39.99.(1 a day).

Hate to pay that much (though that ain't bad), but the only 22LR I'm looking for now is subsonic stuff for use with silencers on rifles - silencers been in NFA jail for over 6 months - should be getting out soon!?

This week, he had the same ammo for $29.99 / brick - I jumped on my one box limit, and went back the next morning for another.
Fortunately I got the last one, but at $39.99 - the shop owner said his help had mispriced the bricks @ $29.99 (I figured that yesterday).

I think he made 39 cents / brick on those $29.99 "specials"!

Needless to say, he was not happy with his help... :banghead:

Price of .22 ammo (LR & Mag.)

On 6-6-14 at Academy Sports I bought 200 rds. total (2 box limit) of CCI Mini Mag .22 LR HP @ approx. 7 1/2 cents per rd. before taxes. Also I felt compelled to pay more than I should have, for my 1st .22 Magnum stash of 100 rds. total (2 box limit), Hornady Critical Defense @ about 28 cents per round.

Win some (kinda):D, lose some:eek:.

Oh well, what the hey !:)

Just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it hasn't been constantly arriving!

I'm sure even when it has been arriving, it is bought out in minutes. Almost putting it out of reach of those who actually have better things to do than wait for ammo to be restocked.

Back on topic, one of my favorite lgs has Remington 525rd bricks for $44.95 no limits. That's 8c/rd and getting better...

I have been thinking about this for quite some time now and decided that staff at a lot of big stores (like Walmart) are saving rimfire for their friends and family, with nothing left over for the rest of us.

Yes unfortunately it happens more than we'd like.

I bought some 22 ammo from a guy who said his friend is an employee at Walmart sporting goods and sends him text when they have it in stock.

.22 Long Rifle available

I live in Coralville, Iowa on I-80. There is a Scheels All Sports store at a mall right in Coralville right by I-80. They are currently well stocked with 100 rd flats of Win. Super-X at 9.99 per box and Remington Golden Bullets for $4.99 for a box of 50 and boxes of Remington Thunder Bolts for 3.99 for box of 50. Limit is three boxes. So, obviously, you could get 300 rounds at 10 cents per round plus tax. I think they open at around 8:30 AM on Sat mornings. I saw this this evening about two hours before they closed. They must have gotten a big supply of the Win. because they sold 250 flats last Sunday and they still have a lot. Get it while you can if you within driving distance. It appears that 10 cents per rd might be the new average. Scheels has been known not to jack the prices up so that is why I say this. FWIW.

Scheel's in omaha also has the selection our friend moewadle has noted. This was also the case last Saturday. In Omaha, they limit handgun ammo to 200 rounds a customer.

Friday our local Dick's got in a number of the 1,400 rd. Remington tubs and some Thunderbolts - they also got in two of the 2K-rd. Winchester M*22 in the (Plano?) ammo "can". A friend called me and asked if I wanted him to get the last 2K M*22 in the can, but I passed as they were $130 - after tax, roughly $35 / box (500 rds.). Not too awfully bad these days, but I've not been impressed with plastic ammo cans, and I've been picking up the M*22 @ Walmart for $25.87 / 500 rds.

The local gun shop has been getting a steady supply of 22LR, but brands / types are all over the place. He had Winchester Subsonic for $54.99 / brick, so I passed on 'em - am on the hunt for stuff in the 1,050 fps range for silencer use on a rifle - he had the CCI Standard Velocity twice in the last two weeks, and they were cheaper than the Winchesters! ($39.99 / brick).

Sure wish somebody locally would get some of the bricks of American Eagle Suppressor - they just started marketing a brick aimed at folks with silencers, and they appear to be $10 cheaper per brick than the CCI, as well as being plated instead of lead.

I have not seen a single box of 22 ammo in any Walmart I have visited since December of 2012. I travel and often go into Walmart all over the country. I know they are getting it in but the fact that I never see it on the shelves shows me that people are still buying it up as fast as it comes in.
I routinely see virtually every other caliber of ammo on the shelves though it can vary by region. Of the "common" calibers 380 is next in line behind 22 as the least likely to be available at the Walmarts I have visited. I have been in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, NY, CA, FL, OH, AL, GA, SC, MS, and a couple of other states in that time.
100% of my 22 ammo has come from online purchases over the past year. I have given away over 10k rounds in that time to people and clubs that needed it.

The question is, how do we best bring this to WalMart's attention, to show that this is hurting their business? I, for one, have stopped looking there.

They can investigate, if they choose. Many have told of employees not following store policy, and there should be employee responsibility follow up.

^^They really don't care because ammo sales are such a tiny portion of their sales volume. They don't advertise it or promote it in any way. They carry it because it sells but it isn't something they are gong to get all that excited about. Walmart does not operate like any other business. It may not make sense from our point of view but it is hard to argue with their success.

Not much around here still. I tried the local walmart and only rimfire ammo I saw was CCI .22wmr @ $13.47. I opted to pass as I dont go through much of it and when the Winchester is in stock it runs about $10. Hopefully I dont regret it.

Went to Gander Mtn after work, they had 1 box of .22 shorts, 100 rounds for $13. Passed on this as well. Not worth $0.13/round to me as I only have one gun that shoots the mouse fart loads.

I havent seen any plain old .22lr locally in some time. One local gun store advertises it on Facebook, but its about 30mins each way out of my way and they only have limited quantities and only sell a limit of 100 rounds at a time. By the time I drive there and back I may as well just buy .45 at walmart where I shop anyway. In the meantime I'll be shooting my .22s minimally and focusing on other guns that I can feed and actually replace the ammo (just about everything else). Still waiting on this "situation" to pass. Im trying to wait patiently.... but my 5 .22s are looking awfully sad :-(
