I don't know if you all can see the Alamo Ammo "In Stock Today!" sticker on this page, but I clicked on it, and the cheapest they have is:

I got a box of Federal AutoMatch Target (325 count) yesterday from Midway for $16.29 along with a few boxes of shotgun shells to make the shipping worth it. It was the "best deal" I've gotten in a while..

I sure hope it is. All but .22lr seems to have come back from the panic in my neck of the woods. My .22 rifles have been busy gathering dust though, as I dont like shooting ammo in any quantity if Im not sure I can replace it. I hope to be able to go to the range again in the not too distant future and shoot up .22 without worrying about where I can get a box to replace it.

Last LGS I was in there was 6-7 different brands of .22LR on the shelf. They still had a limit and the price is still high but I suspect those things to change soon. Even the most extreme hoarders run out of space eventually.

The Brick

CCI Mini Mags at local Gander yesterday , .08 per round. no miracle , but not too bad for a good round. Got a brick of federal there a few weeks back at .065 per round. Things are gradually looking up , but I don't think it will ever get to the point where you can walk into a store and choose from the broad selection on the shelves. Too many factors , so much economic instability , so much distrust of government , too much social unrest.

I get it when and where I can.
"All in all, you're just a brick in the wall" . (Repeat) ........... (No disrespect intended) :(

No limit policy on any ammo at my Walmart. 10,000-12,000 round 22LR shipments are showing up. All 22 is gone by 7-7:30 AM bought by a handful of people. Scalped at local gun shows. Eventually scalpers will not be able to sell it at high prices, if people stop buying it from them.

.22 supply is still scarce here in Oregon. However, I refuse to pay more than $30 a brick. A couple of months back I did get lucky and happened to get some Rem. Thunderbolts for $1.99 at the local Bi Mart. They were gone quickly.

It is made by RWS, so $60 a brick would be a normal price. It will be lubed like match ammo so expect it to be greasy and slimy. Also expect really tiny groups from a heavy barrelled 10/22 or 597.

I ordered 2k rounds of .22lr from midway in Dec and still waiting....

Funny. I ordered from them in November, and I couldn't have ordered that many of what I wanted. I was limited to 1 can of (325) Federal-something, and five sleeves (100 each) of CCI MiniMags.

Of course, I'm also in the "still-waiting" club..

Am I the only one that has dreams of finding 22 ammo?

Last night I had my third "found 22" dream...I was in my local WalMart right before close and they brought out a pallet of Federal 550 and Winchester 555 for $16 per brick...I bought all of it  (my subconscious is a pretty smart dude)

WHAT DOES IT MEAN???

I actually use that stuff (nail setting blanks.) I have a Hammond Game Getter, which is a .30-06 cartridge case with an off-center "primer pocket." The "primer pocket" is really a .22 rimfire chamber and it's off-center so the centerfire firing pin will hit the rim.

You load the blank in the chamber, put a sized buckshot in the mouth, and slide it into your rifle. Mine shoots 1" groups at 25 yards right at the top of the thick part of the bottom crosshair.

I wonder if you could use one of those blanks to drive a 22 cal bb down the bore of a 22lr rifle

Heck, couldn't you just use a primer with a bit of powder and get the same results with some buckshot?

Probably...if you packed the BB with a wad to keep it from rolling out. BB's are 0.177" diameter. .22LR is about 0.222 to 0.223" in diameter.

Rifling diameter is 0.217", bore diameter is 0.222".

BB's are 0.171" to 0.173" in diameter, with a bore diameter of 0.177". So if you put a BB (or lead pellet) down the barrel of a .22 rifle, you'll need something to keep the BB from falling out. Plus there will be considerable blow-by around the BB, given the fact that it doesn't provide a seal between the BB and the barrel.

Things are definately getting better. In the last 3 weeks I've found .22LR TWICE at regular stores. Once at Bass Pro Shops and another time at Wal-mart.

The last time was at Walmart. A 100 pack of Winchester Super-X for ~$8. Clerk said they got 20 boxes Sunday night. I got the last box Tuesday at lunch. So that ammo sat on the shelf for a day and a half before it ran out.

If you're going to use a nail-setting blank in a .22 rifle, I recommend using lead shot -- with my Hammond Game Getter I have a sizing die -- a hockey puck-sized steel disk with a highly-polished tapered hole in the middle. I put a bit of motor oil in a shallow dish and pour in the buckshot, then one-by-one push them through the hole with a 1/4" diameter rod.

What you want is number 4 shot, about 0.24" in diameter. Number 4 may or may not shoot unsized, but I'd try loading the rifle with a short, curved ramrod to poke the shot into the breech and into the origin of the rifling. Try a brown (lowest power) blank first.
