Well I am looking for a fairly accurate bolt action plinker, 50-100ish yards. A synthetic stock, a good trigger and a detachable magazine are musts. Blued (or similar color), upgradeable options, and a threaded barrel are pluses but not a requirement.

I have been looking at the following rifles:
CZ 452 Silhouette
Savage Mark II FV

I can find the Savage, but I can't seem to find the CZ.

The Mossberg 802 bolt-action is a great gun with a decent trigger and it's one of the least expensive .22LR out there....It is extremely accurate...

marlin, new or used, 780, 880 or 980 , in sporter or heavy bbl, is a super accurate rifle, with plenty of mags available. Some cz's if you can find them with the english Parker hale prefix to the rifle, will allready be threaded.

Thanks for the link, that threaded CZ 452 Style may be the way to go, I don't have to pay about $100 to have it threaded.

Well, it looks like somebody has already mentioned Whittaker Guns, a good place to buy CZs and other 22s. If your budget can go to $600-$700, you may be able to find a Kimber Hunter, which has a much better trigger than the 2 guns your listed.

Personally I have had problems with Savage MKIIs. I love their larger bolt guns but do not care for the .22s as I have had issues with them.

My two cents, run, do not walk to Whitakers and pick yourself up ANY CZ452/453. Spectacular little rifles for the money.

Well now that I have found some where to purchase the CZ 452 that I wanted I am going to be going that route. The fact that a threaded barrel is available even more inviting.

I budgeted about $1k for this project for:
Rifle
Barrel Threading if needed
Optics
Suppressor
Tax Stamp

Or you can get the CZ, spend an additional $14 for a Brook's trigger kit to get an exceptionally sweet trigger. Do a search on rimfirecentral.com to learn more.

Thanks for that link, that seems to fix the most common problem I have heard about the CZ452. I called Whittaker, the Style with the factory threaded barrel won't fit my suppressor, but I can still get a Silhouette threaded.

Now to work up the money.

A word of caution about the Brook's kit: It comes with several shims and springs to take out creep and lighten the trigger, respectively. The important thing is to find a combination that works for you and is, most of all, safe. It's a terrific & very popular little solution for a so-so trigger, but it is possible to take out too much creep and/or use a spring that's too light, resulting in an unsafe trigger. Since this is a plinker, there's no need to go crazy trying to get a competition sub-1lb trigger. Be sure to safety test your new trigger before shooting, and ideally at regular intervals afterward. Details of the safety tests can be found on rimfirecentral.

i have a savage mkII. loved it so far. what problems should i be on the lookout for?

I am just going to have my smith install the kit when he threads the barrel. I would like a 1.5-2lb trigger pull, thats about optimal for me. I personally never touch the fire control group unless I have to.

Functioning issues. My guess is if yours works to your satisfaction it will continue to do so. My issues probably stem more from poor QC and they have exhibited immediately.

CZs however have never let me down.

There you have a huge statistical sample of about 5 firearms so the confidence level should be in the neighborhood of .000000000000000000000015 :neener:
